Powerlifting - where to start?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Nooooobie to the forum here.

Ive been bodybuilding for 10 or so years now, "but I feel like I need something else" (remember that ad on TV?)

So, I thought Id give Powerlifting a go and have been following a fairly rough Powerlifting routine over the last 2 months.

The issue is Id like to further my knowledge in the form of a book on the sport, but do you think you I was able to pick one up from Dymocks, Whitcoulls or Borders ?? nope/nada.

Are there local specialist outlets in NZ that would carry these Books perhaps? - so far I havent been able to find any....

Appreciate anyones help!

Paul

Hi Soaring - Im doing a very simple 3 day split at the mo - ie Mon = Squats etc, Wed=Bench etc and Fri = DLifts etc.

low reps - ie 5ish for everything.

Not sure what I should or shouldnt be doing.

All I know is that I want to lift heavier!

hi - yeah im just north of Auckland with only one squat rack in the area (Stanmore bay leisure centre)

Im 5"11, 101Kg and lifting relatively light weights (ie 160Kg Deadlift etc)- still trying to 'find my way'...

Are there any reputable gyms in AKL city perhaps?

If you call Steve King at the New Lynn branch of Club Physical, he is involved in the NZ powerlifting Association. Still has a number of records and they regularly hold the events out there as well.

:ditto:

Lance Stewart has got a good team going at Genetics

My advice to you is move to Wellington now. Go sweat and bleed at the 'House with Old Bull.

I am not worthy. :notworthy:

Save your travel monies here is a closer one to sweat and bleed.

If you want to ditch the Chrome Gyms and get the Atmosphers and lift in a lifters gym then Big Macs Gillies is the place to be
