SCHEDULED OUTAGE!

Well, the transfer's been done. I think it's gone successfully - although certain ISPs (like mine  ) may take a bit longer to realise the site has been moved. This means they'll still be directing people to the old server, but they should update their records shortly.

Hope no-one suffered withdrawal symptoms while the site was down. Let me know if there are any problems.

I havent been able to access the site for about 36 hrs or so, thought there must have been some major disruption. Good to see it back up, hope this is the last of the outages.

Yeah - I dunno what the problem was there. I noticed our visitor numbers over Queen's Birthday weekend were down... way down. But I wasn't sure whether this was just because of the long weekend, or whether there was some other reason.

I didn't start the transfer until about 11pm Monday night. At midnight, I redirected "nzbb.co.nz" to point to our new server. This change usually takes up to 8 hours to filter down to your ISP, so until then they would have been connecting you to the old server. Now normally that would be fine, but it appears our old server had a setting that delayed this change by a further 24 hours.

What I don't understand is why some ISPs noticed this setting, and others ignored it! I know IHUG still hasn't updated, so I'll follow that one up now.

Growth - I don't have an answer to why the site might have been down then, I'm sorry. Hopefully it was just teething troubles.

OK, IHUG have identified the problem at their end. People connecting through IHUG will find...

http://nzbb.co.nz points to the new server, but

http://www.nzbb.co.nz points IHUG customers to the old server

IHUG are working on the problem, but say it may not be fixed for another 48 hours. So in the meantime IHUG customers can still access the board by removing the "www."

I'll also put up a redirect on the old server, transferring http://www.nzbb.co.nz through to nzbb.co.nz

As far as I know, this problem only affects IHUG customers.
