Ok to do cardio in mornings?

I'm thinking of doing cardio 20 mins ab work and 20 mins on crosstrainer every morning and then doing my workouts around 5pm later in the day.

Good idea or not? this will take place for around 4 - 5 times per week.

Good idea - esp if you were to do it before breakfast (the cardio/cross trainer, not so sure about the abs). Have a coffee and an aspirin first....helps with fatburning.

Morning is the best time to do cardio. Some just take fat burners prior to going, I use to have to have a scoop of protein with water with my fat burners 30-45mins prior just so I didnt' get light headed/sick. But mostly people just go with the fat burners

What are your goals and the reasoning for doing that?

Morning cardio is fine, just have a protein shake before you do it. Will that amount of cardiovascular work impact your resistance training in the evening?

Do cardio before eating anything in the morning and muscle breakdown will be reduced as cortisol levels are low from sleeping - Cortisol leads to muscle breakdown. Justmake sure you eat well after. Caffiene is good for weight loss as mentioned.

Really? I thought cortisol level peaks upon waking up within your normal circadian rhythm, assuming you aren't terribly stressed with life and don't possess any conditions that screw up your adrenal functions.

Reason being, as it stands I am doing no cardio what so ever...apart from dancing in clubs a few nights a week :pfft: but that doesn't really count..and I can't really dance anyway.

This is why I was asking, as to not impact my resistance training in the afternoon and I also don't do core work during my workouts so thought I would add it into the mornings along with cardio in small amounts to start with.

I agree with the morning cardio, but I've always felt that abs should get the same approach as every other muscle - heavy weight, 12 reps (give or take), then rest. I've never seen the logic in doing lots of light situps every day. Still, the "lots and light" method is pretty common...

So you want to do cardio simply for aerobic fitness. I wouldn't have a clue about your cardiovascular fitness, but maybe starting with that amount and frequency of cardio training may not be the best idea.

Remember that cardio burns calories just like any other activity and you'll have to compensate for that deficit by eating more (this depends more on your goals though, ie hypertrophy vs. fat loss).
