Tribulus and females

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this. But have any of you girls (or do you boys know of any girls who have tried it) out there tried tribulus and if so what kind of results did you get from it? Also are there any negative effects associated with females taking this product?

Tribulus wouldn't have a positive effect on Testosterone or muscle gains for you (I assume that's what you were wanting). It doesn't directly increase testosterone levels in the body like prohormones or steroids. It does this indirectly by increasing the release and production of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in the body. In males LH causes the interstitial cells of the testes to produce more testosterone. Testosterone stimulates the growth spurt at puberty, promotes increased bone mass and skeletal mass, and has multiple anabolic effects throughout the body.

However in women LH triggers ovulation and stimulates ovarian production of estrogen and progesterone. While increased estrogen levels in females offers some anabolic effect, increased estrogen also increases sodium reabsorption leading to increased water retention. Some herbal formulas for women may contain Tribulus, as the hormone balancing effects of Bulgarian Tribulus Terrestris for women makes this herb suitable for premenstrual syndrome and menopausal syndrome.

I wouldn't really suggest its use for the gym though. There seems to be a misconception in the market that women can use it to boost testosterone but that simply isn't the case. If someone does try to sell it to you it is because the store assistant either doesn't know what they are talking about or is taking you for a ride. If you're shopping in health stores this will often be the case - so best to stick with the sports nutrition stores as they generally (should) know more about stuff like this.

I have read claims that it can increase libido in women and slightly increase test also however these are not scientific and have been by marketers of products containing tribulus. So at best it is untustworthy, I would be interested if anyone can dig up a proper study
