anyone have trouble cheating

Hey I know this prob sounds like a silly question, but does anyone have trouble having a cheat day.

I have trouble having a cheat day as I assume Ill wake up the next day huge(I know I know impossible) and would rather stay on my diet.

I have read somewhere that having a big cheat day keeps the metabolism working well but have no idea if this is true.

I also know the theory that having a cheat day encourages you to stick to your good diet other times, but I dont have trouble with that just allowing myself to cheat is all.

Its not that I dont like food quite the contrary I buy cuisine magazine, watch the food channel and love to cook for my daughter and partner, I just dont have cravings or anything. Is there any benefit either than mental to having a cheat day?????

If you're not tempted to have 'naughty' food on a cheat day or for a treat meal, try just increasing your calories with clean foods.

I have no problem having a cheat (I like to call it 'treat' day/meal' as opposed to a cheat because it's like I'm rewarding myself for a good week of dieting and training). I find the extra calories helps ramp up my metabolism again.

So a cheat/treat day is good for your metabolism I had heard that, guess it varies from individual to individual.

Got a forced cheat day coming up on thurs with the lads bbq and way too many beers Ill wager......although I can hardly drink now a six pack and I'm out to it.......and I get shit for drinking low carb beer. Be my first cheat for about two weeks be about three before that so I guess thats not too bad.

Every Saturday after a massive leg or deadlift session in the morning we would go to Pizza Hutt all-you-can-eat or Valentines and do just that for up to 3hrs! Then rest of week it was strict clean meats and carbs again. Worked well when gaining size.

Agree with Truds, seems to amp up metabolism the big hit of carbs and sugars and certainly didnt result in any extra fat accumulation, in fact seemed to get leaner and certainly something to look forward to psychologically.

I don't have many cheat days - I like to eat pretty clean - but when you do have them they don't have to be a pig out. Mine is a nice cheat meal from time to time - not a day of free eating. It is usually plain food which normal people have each day but I now consider treats and really appreciate - toast with peanut butter, cheese, yoghurt and muesli with fruit, baked beans on toast. If I started on pizza I doubt I could stop and I don't think it would make me leaner ...

I tend to have a cheat meal from time to time - not a big pigout. Mainly clean food or things I enjoy but classify more as treats now - peanut butter on toast, baked beans on toast, muesli/yoghurt/fruit/nuts/raisins etc.

I think doing that is good - for the body and mind, but I also understand it can be hard psychologically to do - as you think you might be losing some of your hard work and discipline.

You are in danger of sounding like a 12 year old girl with an eating disorder and body image issues, for god sake eat man!

Yeah yeah you may be right, its just as someone who used to be overweight I am having trouble adjusting to eating more than I ever have before(Oh god I am a 12 year old girl with an eating disorder!).

I am eating over twice what I was when I first browsed these pages a month ago and since incresing food I have seen huge increases in strength in the gym particularly in core moves like deads and squats. So I concluded I was basically starving myself.

So are you still trying to lose weight at this point? I am assuming so, post your diet if you would like feedback.

actually no now I am trying to put on lean mass. I dieted to 77kgs through starvation and excercise(what'd I know at that point, I was a fool) have drastically changed my eating and am now at 83kgs (176cm btw)and feeling a lot better.

My diet is as follows:

breakfast

generally 4 egg whites(people say dnt worry about talking yolks out but Im used to it now)

Can chicken/tuna

1 or 2 pieces of vogels very thin slice bread(thats its name I dnt mean I slice it very thin)

2 hours later

true-mass protein shake

piece fruit

2 hours later

can tuna/chicken

piece of fruit and or 1/3 cup rolled oats uncooked with water

Post work out

True-mass protein shake

2 hours later (Usually pretraining meal)

tin tuna/chicken with cottage cheese on piece vogels bread

sometime in next hour after training

piece of steak/chicken/tuna/egg white omelette

cottage cheese

1/4 cup of vogels cafe style muesli (full of nuts-almonds linseed etc I know there are healthier ways to get that but this keeps hunger away and Im trying to build mass and dont you need some sugar as well after training?)

2 hours later true-mass protein shake

before bed cottage cheese about a 1/3 cup

how does that sound??

I have switched to the Truemass today after taking an isolate because the guy at the supp shop reckoned I was probably under carbing myself.....He asked me if I ever get hungry in the middle of the night and I said that yes if I woke at night I generally had to eat somthing if I wanted to get back to sleep. That my weight had been static for a while but that my weights in gym had gone up rapidly with food increase.

The guy at the supp shop said that as long as my diet remained constant just the addition of a good mass building powder wont see me suddenly fatten up especially not as one container would only last me two weeks. After the two weeks I am to go back and see him and he will help me decide which way to go next, did that help me or should I go in another direction.

Does all that sound reasonable IronGame what else do you suggest guys?

He also advised me against going for supplements other than protein just yet as it would be a good idea to fine tune my diet first and then look at additional supps when that is as good as it can be.

I find it hard to cheat. Can't stand the insulin overload from all the sugar. I try to cheat on Sunday but I always feel shit after. I say cardio and eat clean - Nothing wrong with a slow matobilism surely?

I know what you mean about feeling like shit afterwards. When I first started eating really clean and I would have a cheat day I would feel so yuk the next morning I thought I had somthing.Took me a couple of times to notice the pattern. Now I just think my body likes the blandish regularity.

Your current lean bulking diet is significantly less cal than my contest diet, remember you do need to put your body in an anabolic environment to produce more lean muscle mass.

Rule: if you are not gaining weight you are not eating enough easy as that.

I would save your money where the weight gainer is concerned especially if you are carb sensitive, which it sounds like you are.

This is a shake I use when I cant get a meal in for whatever reason.

500ml full cream milk

1/4 cup peanut butter (natural is best)

1/4 cup extra virgen olive oil

75gm protein (from protein powder)

2 tablespoons milled flax seed

I lot of cal, very little sugar and lots of "healthy" fats, making it easier to get down and not leave you feeling bloated and with fluctuating blood sugar levels.

Also slowly start adding more of the same carbs to each meal, over the course of a couple of weeks-a month you should double them.

If you can eat like this on a daily basis there is no need for a re-feed day.

Remember when you stop gaining weight add 300-500 cal a day untill you start gaining then when you platau again add more cal in the same manor.

You can gain weight on f*ck all food if it is full of fat and sugar.

A Big Mac has 540 calories and only 25grams of Protein!!

If you eat clean then just add in more brown rice, oats, fruit etc... Eating a lot before bed will (apparantly) lead to more calorie absorbtion that during the day.

Hmm at first on cheat days I tried having junk I normally would have had and the second time it made me physically sick and I have no cravings for it.

Still my cheat day is sunday I have my usual breakfast snacks and lunch and then I go out to dinner and have a huge steak just no fries or anything regular potatoa steamed veg with no butter etc and a glass of wine or a nice single malt scotch

I look forward to it all week and its like a niuce treat to having worked hard all week got up and been to the gym the other 6 days its like spoil myself time but funny that I spoil myself on realitevly healthy meal but like I said went way way off the junk food after it made me so ill.
