New Alacen whey available from Davis trading- question?

big MAC

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just got off the phone with Davis trading. They have no got any more WPC 450 or the WPI, but they have Alacen 132 Whey protein (79% protein) available in 25kg bags for $410 ex gst at their Mt Wellington branch, pick up only.

Does anyone know anything about the Alacen 132? I need to know ASAP whether to get it or not.

Thanks

Did you try asking them?

From the information that I can find it seems to only be used in food manufacturing. My guess is that it is a much lower quality grade than what most good sports supplement companies would sell you. Did they say it was 79% protein or that it contained 79% whey protein?

Perhaps Dale can help you out since he deals with Fonterra and is probably aware of the current nonsupply of WPC from Fonterra to NZ manufacturers.

Flex, the woman at the counter basically said I should be able to find details online. Didn't seem to know any more details. I can't really find anything else out about the stuff though, and I don't want to buy junk.

This is all I can find... (WPC Alacen 132™, protein content; 78.4%, ash content; 4.18%, pH 6.9)

This seems to be only slightly different to the WPC 450.

Which Dale are you referring to, Shepherd?

Big Mac, the 132 is a high gelling non-instantised WPC that is used mainly in food products and bars due to its binding/gelling properties. Not sure what it tastes like as a shake.

whats high gelling mean?

is it a decent protein powder in your opinon?

Thanks Dale.

What would that mean as far as mixability? I'd imagine it wouldn't mix well as a result? Taste is of little concern to me.

not sure m8, haven't tried, would think it may be a bit slow to dissolve and even quite clumpy but maybe get a sample from Davis before outlaying $400+. May be ok in cold water/milk and only gel with heat??

Big Mac, spoke to Fonterra's technical department and they would definitely not recommend buying a Alacen 132 to use in a drink application. I think it wouldn't mix well at all and if you consider buying this maybe share with 2 or 3 people so you arent stuck with a bag of problems. And yes, supply is extremely tight for instantised Alacen 450 and WPIs until the cows come back into production in June 08!

Time to level some of these cities and put it back into farmland or maybe you guys can advise the farmers how to grow bigger cows that produce more milk!!!!! :)

Dale, thanks very much for saving me $460 and a bad taste in my mouth. I'll just have to go about the usual route of scouting out cheap protein, or buying from someone who has some WPC450 to spare.

I need to win some competitions so I can get some sponsored supps, cause I can't afford them otherwise!
