Yep that was the top 3.

Just a quick note to apologize to you guys and girls out there who could see that I was not "ON' as they say.

We tried something a little different with our water and carb depletion, which as you could see didn’t work. It left me flat with cramps from head to toe.

I was unable to even get a pump back stage.

I am not making excuses for my poor showing merely apologizing to you guys if I let anyone down.

I will do a full show report this weekend for you all to see what I did and how not to make the same mistakes.

I will include pre, show and post show pics.

Thanks for all your support.

Regards J,

you did well jamie, but yeah looks like you over depleted and lost some of you quality size,in saying that your glutes and hammies came in sharp. the sarated glutes where one of the only ones in the elite section. was a little disapointing to see you look a bit small and flat to how you usually are, but you live and learn and i'm sure you will get it closer next time. good luck.do another show soon.

Can somebody tell me how Sala and Mike got their Pro Cards?

I thought you would have to be at least 90kg on stage or something to qualify?

In one of those peoples cases, it helps having friends in high places....

Thats exactly what I thought for both of them. Mike won the Federations nationals one time, so what we gonna make every Mr NZ a Pro????? Come on what a joke

haha yeah was kind of my point on another thread

yeah nzfbb testing is a contradiction in terms. what a joke. i don't bother.i'm fine with nabba. no turning a blind eye to this competitor or this one.everyones on an equal footing as anything goes.Thats bodybuilding. Wanna be natural, thats fine. stick to a divison you think you can win. nabba sort of cater to that with the athletic novice classes. nzfbb should have a natural section thats tested if thats the way some people wanna go.

You should get your facts straight before making a statement like that, NZMM.

Mike and Salah both applied to the NZFBB to have their Pro card applications endorsed. We (the NZFBB Executive) considered each case, and approved both. Simple as that. So having "friends in high places" had nothing to do with it!

That hopefully answers your question, Bluto - i.e. Mike and Salah got their Pro cards because of their application to the NZFBB Executive and the resulting approval received.

There would not be many others (if any) since Lee Priest that have been awarded a Pro Card so young. By then he had appeared in muscle and fitness magazine articles and touted as a freak in the making. Now days, to earn a pro card, most competitors have to prove themselves at an international contest.... why not wait a few years? what was the big hurry?

As Mastertel explained, they applied for their pro cards and they were endorsed.

I think an important point to remember is that Melbourne and Auckland are Mike and Salah's first and second shows as pro's. Perhaps we as a magazine buying and internet scouring audience have become accustomed to thinking that everyone who turns pro will have a top five, Olympia level physique during their first year of competing and are judging them by that standard. Only a couple of guys in recent times have had that (Leverone, Flex, Yates) and some amazing athletes have taken years to get to that level ( Coleman, Wolf etc).

I believe that Pro cards are awarded based on an athletes potential to do well in the future as very few have the total package in their first or even second years as pro's.

As far as having the right to compete as a pro is concerned, take a look at other professional sports, did Roger Federer become world number one in his first year as a pro? or did it take 4-5 years of high level, professional competition to cultivate his game into being the best in the world.

Just because an athlete is outside the top 20, 50 or even hundred doesn't mean they shouldn't have the right to better themselves and earn an income from the sport they love.

The important aspect is that the ahtletes for the most part are selected on their potential to improve, though I think that we are beginning to expect a Coleman, Cutler, Wolf or Martinez from the get go.

Look at how much Ronnie improved from his amateur days, to his multiple low Olympia placings, to his breakthrough. It didn't happen overnight.

Mike and Salah may or may not ever win a pro show, but that doesnt mean they should be denied the chance to compete for one and guage themselves against the top competition.

The real traversty would be to deny future athletes the opportunity of experiencing this competition.

Finally, what do Lee Labrada, Mike Henry and Shawn Ray have in common?

They are all bodybuilders who obtained pro status under 90kg's yet they all stood on the Olympia Stage.

Also, How many pro titles did Milos Sarcev win? Doesn't mean he wasn't a great bodybuilder - Just some food for thought.

In 9 times out of 10 I have found that the biggest wingeing and moaning and critisizing comes from people who rarely get up on stage. All power to Mike and Salah for getting to be PRO bodybuilders they are living their dream. It was fantastic to be in Melbourne with them to see their nervous debut's on the PRO stage. By the end of the day they had grown so much in confidence, now they will just get better and better. Was great to be a kiwi and watch Mike enter the stage to do his routine to a whole lot of kiwi music over there in Aussie. Absolutely brilliant. Just a great day to be a kiwi and memories that will last forever. I predict bodybuilding will just grow and grow now that a standard has been set with the new Elite class. For those who critisize the smaller Elite boys who I guess I am one. Lets see you get up there and see if you can do better. Perhaps you may get a shock.

Matrix.... I agree with you that both of those athletes have HUGE potential! And I also predict that they will turn a few heads and place very well in years to come. However, the issue that has got a few people scratching their heads is was the pro card earned. Now if the NZFBB is merely handing out Pro cards to people with potential, then why not hand out Pro cards to all of the junior competitors as well? Who would have more potential than them? I know of several top NZ bodybuilders, who over the past few years were itching to get their hands on a Pro card, but the NZFBB made it very clear that they wouldn't be awarding any... Comparitively did they not have enough potential?

You also mentioned Ronnie Coleman and Dennis Wolf.... raising the point that they both struggled initially in their Pro careers, however, they still earned their pro cards at an international IFBB competition.
