Bodybuilders with tattoos and such..

Ok so this might be an obvious question to many of you but it is something I am really curious about and want to know. In competitions how does body art like tattoos impact on the competitor?

I see a lot of ink at the gym but I want to know how many people competing have tattoos or other forms of body art? Is it frowned upon? Acceptable?

Do competitiors cover up with dermablend or such?

i dont think it matters a rat arse really , with all the fake tan on they are barely visable, heaps of pros have em lee priest is covered in em . i have tatts , dont compete yet but it def wont put me off in the future . as long as you bring it , no worrys

I dont actually have any tattoos I was just wondering :wink: I do find them attractive though and wondered how they impacted if at all those who compete. I also wonder if NZ having a heavily tattooed population would differ from competing overseas. I have an American friend who is amazed his facial tats arent even blinked at here where as over there it is a different story :shock: :shock:

I think I recall reading somewhere that being covered in tats is technically something you can be penalised for, although in practise it very rarely happens. It might be the deciding factor between two otherwise-identical competitors, but apart from that, I don't think it's a problem.

I'm not sure as far as the judges go, but agree with b&k. When I competed last year, I didn't even think about covering my tat, but in the pics, you can hardly see it, so the tan covers them pretty well.

This question was raised at a bodybuilding seminar I ran recently i.e. is a competitor liable to be marked down for having tattoos.

A senior judge at the seminar confirmed that in most cases tattoos can be effectively covered with a decent layer of tan. But even if they are still visible, it is highly unlikely to affect a competitors score or placing.

If your tattoos are still quite noticeable on stage, it is likely you haven't tanned up enough - so you are far more likely to be marked down for a poor tan rather than for the tattoos themselves.

Yeah I worried this at first when I decided I was going to compete and then remembered I had a few tatts I also wanted to get.....MT is right if your tatoos can be seen you arent tanned up enough. So....dont let that stop you with the tattos....within reason of course :pfft:

Ive never tried tan so its good to know it covers so much Still I dont really have any plans for tattoos. I was just curious about bodybuilding and body modification of all forms

I've got nearly full back tats. If I get my tan right they are barely noticable - there may be still pics of my back in the pics section. As for whether I lose points for them????? Still a novice at this point!

Shit! Can't believe I didn't think of that! Sometime when I have been walking down the main street with 3/4 pants on I have caught a glimpse of the bit on my ankle but I never thought about using a mirror. I once tried taking a photo of it with one of those disposable cameras but I couldn't find a place to get the films processed.
