Interested in getting into Powerlifting

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've been lifting for about 1.5 years now and have recently started veering towards strength training, and i've finally decided i'd like to give powerlifting a go.

My stats are:

16 years old, 72kg @ 13% bf (i guess i'd compete in the 67.5kg class after a few weeks of cutting)

DL= 165kg

Squat= 150kg

Bench= 85kg (i know this is lagging)

My lifts are shooting up atm now that i've started training with much lower reps, however i'm not exactly training for powerlifting.

I'm interested to know what the best way to get into it is? (i'm in Wellington btw)

Cheers,

Matt

Hey Matt

Pretty good numbers Double Body Weight thats good :clap:

Bench= 85kg (i know this is lagging) Wouldn't worry about that to much its the Deadlift that ends up winning most comps except if you are T :P and its done after the 2nd session (Bench) lift

72kg @ 13% bf (i guess i'd compete in the 67.5kg class after a few weeks of cutting)

Would not even think of doing that at the moment thats about 6% of your body weight, maybe over a period of time slow and gradual. You would lose to much strength, plus maybe hard earned muscle at the same time.

I myself :evil: and many others have bombed chashing records in a lower weight class.

I'm interested to know what the best way to get into it is? (i'm in Wellington btw)

Where do you train?

PM me, We have a Powerlifting Workshop here at The House in 2 weeks there might be a spot left just doing the numbers now.

Stay Strong

  • 3 weeks later...

I met a guy who was a powerlifter. he was less than 70 kilograms. he said he bet a lot of bigger people because there is a formula that calculates strength to weight ratio or something..does anyone know the formula used in competitions or was he just bullshitting me?

Ask him what formula and when he was lifting.

The formula has changed to what SS said. The older formula disadvantaged bigger guys. or maybe the opposition were not strong enough he was a strong mofo

In each competition there is the Best Male and Female lifter, this determines who's the best.
