Website upgrade

We interrupt this program with an announcement...

As you may have gathered, we've been working on a new version of the website for a while now. Well, it's finally ready to go live!

We're just doing some final testing to make sure we can transfer everything from the old site (losing those pearls of wisdom would be awful!). Assuming that all goes well, we'll be making the change on Wednesday.

This will require taking the site offline for a couple of hours. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience, but I hope you'll forgive us when you see the cool new version. I think you will. :D

The upgrade is more than just cosmetic though... We're also updating the software the forum runs on, so you'll find a few new functions in there too. More functions will be added over the coming months as I get time.

Now, in case of emergency...

If the worst happens, and you can't log in to the new site, try requesting a new password (there's a function for it under the login screen). If that doesn't work, please let me know.

Thankyou all. We now return you to normal programming.

Hmm. It might be a little slower loading because there's a whole pile of new stuff for it to load now. But I wouldn't have thought it was that much slower (it isn't significantly slower for me, and my broadband connection's not the greatest).

Do you guys have caching turned on in Internet Explorer - assuming that's the browser software you use? That will help. Go to Tools > Internet Options, then under Browsing History, click the Settings button. Make sure "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is set to "Automatically".

In terms of new features, the biggest couple of changes are:

- Now each forum shows multiple topics on the front page, rather than just one. I don't know whether anyone's discovered it yet, but you can click and drag the forums into whatever order you like.

- You can now add your own events to the calendar. If you know of something coming up that you think we might be interested in, please let us know!

- You can't see this one, but the framework is now in place for me to add extra modules. So expect to see new features being added over the next few months as I get time.
