Is this repeats of last years?, I missed most of last years.

Does anyone here follow it.

I was watching last night when this Ozzy guy who looked like a Maori dude, (Derek Boyer or something like that). majorly fucked up his dead lift time by showing off after his last rep, by standing there holding the bar and ranting. I think it was the only event he actually did any good in.

He was spewing but it was his own dumb fault.

Yeah, I've downloaded all the episodes of 07 WSM, pretty good watch.

Also compete in strongman as well, not a very big sport in NZ. A few people are quite keen to get into the whole sport right now, but we really need more comps.

Boyer did have a brain lapse by not putting the deadlift down, but it didn't cost him any places in the event. From what I gather he had been doing a movie and hadn't done much prep for WSM. Make no mistake, no one at that comp is a slouch, with the exception of the absolute top guys, everyone is very closely matched.

As for drug testing, they mostly do VERBAL drug tests and then get urine tested for recreational drugs. Pop as much Dbol as you want, just don't get caught doing coke.

Sorry wasnt insinuating the guy was a slouch (especially since hes 3 x my size), was just going off what the commentators were saying.

Man I would definitely be into more comps and a decent strongman comp in NZ.

From what Ive heard ( I havent had the pleasure of seeing one yet ) its a mixed bag of endurance and strength. which is kind of a put off to be honest.

What would you prefer? A 5km run or a powerlifting meet? Not sure what you mean.

Yeah endurance is a pretty big factor if you want to do well, but it's more important to be able to handle the implements. Ideally one would have a 200kg deadlift, ideally 230kg, otherwise chances are you won't be able to do certain events. Here's hoping for some good competitions over the next few years.

.

All good, never met Boyer, all I know is he'd kick probably all but one guy (from RSA) in the Southern Hemisphere at strongman. But, the commentators were pretty useless, with the exception of Bill Kazmaier, arguably the strongest man in history.

That would be excellent. Which gym?

I'm keen to come out and help run a small gym show, problem is getting implements however. I guess one could perhaps borrow a strongman log (I know a few sources), get hold of a pulling sled for a drag event, get a harness for a car/ute pull (or a tug of war rope for an arm over arm pull). Plus then use a normal bar for a deadlift hold for time, and maybe a clean and press for reps in one minute.

Just takes a bit of intiative and a venue.
