Competition Numbers

Anyone notice that the Nabba and Nzfbb comps in Auckland have attracted seriously small amounts of competitors. What does this say about the sport? Anyone have any thoughts as to why the numbers are down? For a city with over one million people, you would think you could get more than 40-50 competitors!

I'm not going to get too political, but in general terms, I think the competitions could be run better - and that goes for all organisations.

I think they could do more to promote the sport to athletes, rather than waiting for competitors to turn up. This would increase competitor numbers.

I think they could open up the organisations, so athletes can go back and forth without being penalised for having competed in a comp run by an "opposing" organisation. This would mean our athletes get more practise at doing shows, which has to mean an increase in the quality of competitors.

Finally, I think they have too many competitions for the current number of competitors. I know this is a hard thing to predict, but surely the trend over the last few years is obvious? Fewer shows would increase both the quality AND quantity of athletes.

...Just my 2 cents as an outsider's point of view... :)

Not a bad post. Some very good points to be made. If I were a non-BB looking in on the sport I'd say there wasn't a lot to attract an outsider in.

I reckon we need to find a 'star' of some sort. A dude/dudette with an awesome physique and a bit of charisma to boot. Natural too!
