The Pump?

When working out is it better to keep the pump in and around the muscle group your working on and possibly do only one group or sub group per day. ie( just chest, or chest and tri's)

Does working one extremity then another rob the first of its pump?

ie(chest then legs) Will this effect gains?

I personally feel the pump is good for feeling good and keeping the area gorged with blood (for whatever reason i dont fully understand yet), but as long as the muscle tissue has been properly fatigued and strained after a short rest it should take nothing away from the first group to move on to another.

Is this wrong?

The pump you get has nothing to do with how beneficial a workout is.

The question Im asking is........

Does it make much difference if you move from one group to another, will doing this rob the first of any good you may have done in the previous workout?

ie(going from chest to legs in the same workout)

Or is it better too stay on and around the one muscle group for better growth? ie(just chest)

Pumps are not building muscle. All they are is essentialy a form of inflammation.

After 2-3 heavy excersizes everything you do after is not going to build much muscle mass. Your strength dips far too much to be doing anything productive other than inflamming the muscle group.

A deep rip for me (like after going heavy on chest press) is a much better feeling than the muscle contracting under minimal weight.

Did Arnie's original quote say "5,000"? I don't remember that bit...

Yep i believe it did :D

No, I think he said the pump was like cuming, then he would go home and cum agian.

FYI: NZMM is never wrong.

Arnold from Pumping Iron:

"It's as satisfying to me as, uh, coming is, you know? As, ah, having sex with a woman and coming. And so can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like, uh, getting the feeling of coming in a gym, I'm getting the feeling of coming at home, I'm getting the feeling of coming backstage when I pump up, when I pose in front of 5,000 people, I get the same feeling, so I am coming day and night. I mean, it's terrific. Right? So you know, I am in heaven."

Getting the "pump" is a great way of knowing you are pushing yourself hard enough to make those muscles grow. Each time you train you have to push it harder to get the same pump this is known as muscle adaption and is one of the fundementals in bodybuilding and muscle growth.

I would also add, if you are training legs and chest on the same day there is no way you can be training those legs hard enough! or chest for that matter. One muscle group per day is optimum, and if you are really pushing yourself to the limit with each set on each muscle group there should be nothing left of your energy at the end of the session.

Always train with a bucket

I agree. I laugh at the guys who do about 3 or 4 muscle groups in one session, I wonder why they even go to the gym :pfft:

I used to train only one part a day, but I found my growth to be minimal.

So I started doing combos like chest and tri's, back and Bi's.

I enjoy it so much that I just don't quit until I cannot stand.

Since Ive been doing this I have gotten massive result, and my strength gains are sizing up to be formidable.

Doing grip strength, with my grips during the night at work, has made a very handy improvement to how much I can lift or pull.

I can do many reps and sets of entire stacks on the machines, and my hands or wrists or forearm just dont wear out.

Lots of other dudes who come in to do one muscle group will go hard until there hands and arms give out, they are small and they lift small.

they leave in half an hour, and ther've not even started there pump.

I will work every muscle until the pump and the deep throb become too much to deal with then I rest halfway through my session.

Then after that muscle group has rested and ache disipates, I hit it again a few more times until I move on to the next group, to do the same thing

On my days off I will do thre groups and spend 3 hours in the gym.

I have guys always say to me any longer in the gym then an hour is useless. In an hour you can do anything you need in that time.

And I agree.

But Im looking to get Strong and huge, and guys dont get huge like Branch Warren, Jay Cutler or Mike Mendelson by doing one group for one hour a day in the gym.

Just my way

Because they have "help" from other things that allow their bodys to train for longer than an hour

Also you spend 3 hours?
