Posing Music

Recommended Posts

It's a matter of opinion really, but personally I think orchestral stuff often works well. Doesn't have to be classical though - something with a strong beat is good.

What was the name of the string quartet group that did revamped classical with a sort of rock beat? Was it "Bond"? They might have some good stuff...

Not that I know anything about competing or posing but I'm going to throw my 2 cents in anyway

Imo it's dependant apon your posing style. From the wellington champs the two most memorable routines to me were done to that 'I want to make love to you' song and Moby's 'Bodyrock'. Two totally contrasting songs from separate genres. Both the routines were very different as were the 'performers' and I doubt either of them could have pulled off the others routine as it wasn't their particular style.

I guess what I'm saying in a round about way is that imo pick a style that suits you and from that pick a song that suits the style, not the other way around.

Most of the other routines I saw seemed to have been done the other way around. Seemed as though they just picked a song they liked and posed to it; resulting in the routine lacking any sort of flare.

my opinion is this:

there are 2 types of music you can pose to - slow gracefule type stuff, or high energy stuff.

the slow gracefule music is the easiest to pose to.

IF you can pull off a high energy routine WELL you can bring the house down.. but unless you make a real good job of it you will look like a fool lol.

i would just pick a song you like and make up a routine.

Pick something that is you, but I wouldn't be picking a new and popular song as chances are so are other people and there is nothing worse than seeing heaps of people do routines to the same song. I have used led zepplin (i think) can't remember the name though and diamonds are a girls best friend from moulin rouge. IMO whatever song you do you need to do your routine to the mood of the song and put lots of personality into cos thats what makes it enjoyable for the audience and the judges.

I work in a recording studio and as a member of this board I would be happy to help out any guys or girls who are serious about putting some music together for a routine. I'm talking about an editing service (not composing) - i.e. maybe you want to edit a longer piece, edit a few pieces of music together in a cool way, or maybe add a line of dialogue into a song or whatever. Email me if you are interested...
