New Dietary Supplements Regulation

This just got revised so now you can look forward to losing many popular products off NZ retail shelves.

Starting with most US made vitamin supplements, B Complex formula's, Gaspari Super Pump and SizeOn. BSN Nitrix and all ZMA supplements are going to need to be relabelled and you'll only technically be able to recommend one serve per day instead of 3 so neither of them will do much for you.

And if they try to enforce this particular clause it will mean a large majority of products won't comply:

"Every dietary supplement described as or containing any mineral, other than a mineral specified in regulation 19(1) of these regulations, shall be so manufactured that each daily dose (for an adult) does not contain more than the maximum specified in the current edition of Recommended Dietary Allowances, published by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Science and National Research Council, Washington DC, USA."

I know of meal replacements and protein powders with vitamins at 1000% of the RDA so this could cause some problems.

I'm not too sure who comes up with this shit or who they consulted but it all seemed to get through without any one really making any fuss. Everyone was so focused on stopping the TGA going through that this one got slipped in instead.

Crap.

Although, I see that a few banned products are on shelves still

Yeah probably not much longer though. There was supposed to be about a 6 month amnesty/phasing in period starting this month, but from some reports they seem to be cracking down on it. Most NZ made stuff is pretty sweet, maybe just a few label and wording changes needed for some of them, but alot of the US made stuff is toast unless the manufacturers are willing to completely change the label and either refomulate the product or change the serving, scoop and capsule sizes.

The US brands that have proper distribution channels set up in NZ, like EAS, should be sweet, but the the parallel imported products being sold by a lot of NZ online stores and some supps stores are probably going to have problems complying.
