Dislocated Shoulder

Small

Recommended Posts

i disolcated my right shoulder on the 15th of jan and can no longer train properly. went and saw my physio today (because was away wen happened) and my dislocation is about 9 days-2 weeks ahead of rehab progress (ie good!) compared to that of male fit young rugby players of my age [17]. but because i'll be out of weights for the next 6-8weeks, and then after that still wont be able to train proper proper until probably late august what can i do to minimise muscle wastage?

i wanted to compete late sep and then in oct this year, but that'l probably be put off till same time next year now.

my dislocation was an anterior dislocation and was out for 5 hours before it was popped back in at the hospital by a doctor, and am having specialist scans to see what damage has been done to the rotator cuff and ligaments surrounding

bugger, similar thing happened to me. the physio should have given you tonnes of rotator cuff ex's to keep it mobilised, apart from that, keep the weight nice and light and don't over do it.

I think it took me about 4 years before i could throw a tennis ball without it popping on me. when i did mine, so hopeully you won't have that drama :)

Sounds damn nasty! This must be one of the most frustrating things in this sport -injuries- The mind is keen to train but the body cant cope. I just lost a training partner due to him having an elbow injury which has completely stopped him trianing.

sorry to hear small, been there with injuries and its not nice. keep up with the cardio and if you can leg weights, do the physio exersices religously as the rehab trainer provides them (i know there boaring but its got to be done).

As marcus said keep protein high and diet clean, alcohol will also slow the healing process so keep away as much as possible (when your injured it seems like a good time to have a drink as your "not in training") and maybe even add in some BCAA, glutamine and HMB for its anti catabpolic properties. There will be some wasting but you want to prevent as much as possible.

Good luck and keep us posted

yeah glucosomine (joint food) is a good idea, as it help to offset possible arthirites in the future, with the joint rubbing and wearing out faster from the damage. Have found that joint food helps alot when putting a lot of strain on, i.e heavy lifts.

but unfortunately I don't know if it actually helps with the recovery. I think the only real option is anti flams, recovery ex's fro mthe physio, and streching.

Have you thought about cracking into yoga, definately helps with maintaining flexibility and reduces the risk of future injury.

Damn, Small! What happened?

^^wat he said  joke

um i was kayaking and tried to go down a hard rapid and flipped and got bashed into a huge rock meanwhile my paddle got stuck n the rocks under the water and as i was pulled with the current my paddle didnt move and hence pop! and i was basikally in the jungle at the time so it took 2 1/2 hours to get to the hospital, and then another 45mins til they gave me any drugs :(

wel i tried a little bit but its hard because some of the positions u have to lean on ure arms and I'm still wearing a sling if im anywhere but home at the moment.

i really want to get back n the gym so thinking about doing legs, atleast its something. can anyone suggest wat exercises i should/shouldnt be doing? nosquats obviously, but leg extention and bw lunges etc... wat about legpress?

Glucosomine is a fantastic product, but you must use one that is of high quality and produced to pharmacutical standards.

Glucosomine shouldn't just be used when you have an injury or when competing, it is a preventative supplement and helps to keep the joints healthy, so therefore it should be consumed daily all the time.

If intersted PM me, i sell a very high quality Glucosomine product that also contains a natural anti inflammatory.

my right shoulder has dislocated 8 times, it got to the point where i would wake up to it dislocating lol, i got it opperated on and now its sweet as, had to take 1/2 a year off from gym with that arm, i still worked out my legs/abbs and ended up getting one of those hand squeezy things to keep the muscles moving
