Thanks everyone,

I suppose I have a lot of questions really, I am wanting to do a competition this year, did one oh about six years ago. As with everyone, time and money is of essence and I just dont know where to start, have been at my gym for about 5 years now and saw a trainer last year, and although he is good, i dont think he has trained like this before. Where to start I say. I am busy studying full time with a six year old at home, but really motivated to compete this year. HELP!!!

Hi Everyone,

Quick question for you all. I am wanting to lose body fat, (aren't we all!!!) but want to know the best way, my trainer says to utilize my diet to drop fat and not to overdo aerobic activity. Feel this sounds good but what are your experiences. Six months out from comp, feel i have a long way to go.

HELP

Cheers

Suzanne

Greetings and welcome to the forum Suzy, hope we can be of help! As you are around 24 weeks out i'd recommend getting your measurements done(body fat, girth etc)and using this as a bench mark to decide on what you need to prioritize. If your within 8-10 kg's of your goal comp weight, id spend the next 8 weeks training as hard with weights as you can and only taking around 200-300 cals out per day, I wouldn't start doing alot of cardio until 16 weeks out, although a couple of low intensity walks per week for heart health and maintenance wont hurt.

If you are training hard you should notice a slow but steady reduction in bodyfat this way, only when you are no longer seeing changes in the mirror, photos and on the calipers/measuring tape would i add extra cardio.

Starting with 3 x 30 minute low intensity sessions first thing in the mornings on an empty stomach or with just a small amount of whey/BCAA's and green tea/ thermos is a good reference point

I agree with some of the other posts, its better to start small as this gives your body some place to go rather than starting with 6, 45 minute sessions twice per day and plateauing several weeks into your diet!
