Metaphysics Rampage

Ok, so I know im a bit of a newbie who doesn’t post much, but thort this might be of some interest. Plus its always good to back kiwi made stuff. “if you buy kiwi, we’ve got it made!” lol

The product is called Rampage made by Metaphysics, which is a nz sports supplement company that resides in christchurch. It costs 100 bucks for 40 serves or 1kg of product. It’s a bit steep but will last you 10 weeks if u workout on a 4 day split and just take it as your pre-workout formula. No loading is required. You can only get metaphysics stuff through Gymeez fitness stores in chch and Dunedin or online at http://www.gymeez.co.nz. Basically this product is marketed as a pre-workout formula, but given the ingredients, I would think it would be bloody good for post-workout too.

Here’s a list of nutritional data/ingredients:

DIRECTIONS

Take one serving (1 ½ scoops) mixed into 300ml of water, 30 minutes before training. Use a shaker and shake for at least 30 seconds. Use once per day

Ingredients:

Dextrose monohydrate, creatine monohydrate, maltodextrin, l-arginine alpha ketogluturate (AAKG), l-glutamine, tri-creatine malate, calcium HMB, taurine, d-ribose, l-tyrosine, anti-caking agent (silicon dioxide) flavours (contains wheat starch), magnesium carbonate, stabilizer (466), artificial sweetener (951), ascorbic acid, piper nigrum extract (bioperine), pyridoxine hcl

Ive used a few of metaphysics products before like their protein blend Nitrosyn (which is flaming awesome btw), tyroxsyn plus which is their thermogenic fat burner and a protein matrix called biopro which was average cos it was just a wpc/casein blend but tasted goodas. All their products are great quality with the best tasting protein powders regardless of what type they are and all mix really well. None of their products are marketed muscletech style and they don’t make stupid claims. They just state what their particular product is for and how to use them, then they let their product results do the talking. Rampage mixes instantly in water and tastes bloody fantastic. Kind of like flat lift but the sweetness levels are just right so its very easily drinkable. It says to mix it with 300ml but I mix mine with 200-250mls and its easily to get down in one gulp. Like all creatine formulas, there is always some particles that sit at the bottom but a quick shake up just before finishing the drink will take care of that. Mixability and taste, taking into account the nature of creatine formulas and its particles that never fully dissolve, I would give it 5/5.

This is the only pre-workout supp ive taken so I don’t have any comparisons with others, but I would say that its definitely not like N.O. Xplode, which from what I hear, amps you up and is filled with stimulants. The results I got from Rampage was a lot faster recovery between sets, therefore I can train with more intensity (which is always a perpetual goal). I definitely got a far larger and more satisfying pump and could squeeze out a few more reps or put up one more plate on the cable machine than I use to do a week and a half ago. (ive only been taking Rampage for about 7 workouts). Also, even though it allows me to train that little bit more intensely than before, for instance, the following day after my chest workout id usually do back, and I just seem that little bit more primed and little less fatigued so I feel more ready and able to thrash my back workout. But basically because the lack of stimulants its more for recovery purposes especially between sets and gives you a bigger pump mainly from the AAKG, therefore allowing you to train a bit harder. Doesn’t amp you up or get you in the zone or whatever they say about N.O Xplode and its counterparts so guess this is a different but good alternative.

The one gripe I have about this product, which is the same gripe I have with many other products, is how you have to measure 1 ½ level scoops of the product. WHY CANT THEY MAKE A SCOOP THAT CATERS TO THE PRODUCT SO YOU ONLY HAVE TO SCOOP ONE LEVEL SCOOP!!! Its quite hard to get it accurate so you end up sometimes mixing a bit more or a bit less of what you’re suppose to mix. Guess its not that big of a deal but it pisses me off. And because the powder is so damn fine you cant just chuck in 1 heaped scoop cause the excess just falls off the sides of the scoop and it plumes up and gets dusty everywhere. But all in all im about 4/5 satisfied with this product. Thanks for your patience on my first review!

Hey, excellent review, buffazn! You mightn't have posted much yet, but that's a quality post right there. More reviews like this, please!

I'd never heard of Bioperine till now, so I just googled it... very interesting. It's a pepper extract being marketed as a "bioavailability enhancer" to increase the absorption of nutrients. I wonder if we'll start seeing it being added to protein powders?

Bioperine is a trademarked/patented name for an extract from Black Pepper and has been added to supps for a while now, but mainly capsulated products - fat burners and vitamins. I'm not sure it works to enhance the absorption of everything so probably isn't much benefit to protein powders. That doesn't stop them from adding it though as it makes the product look all scientific - http://www.healthy.co.nz/bodyburn-whey- ... nilla.html

Some people get it confused with BZP (benzylpiperazine) which is another extract of black pepper (piper nigrum) however differs markedly in its effect. It is sometimes listed as Piperine, Black Pepper Extract or Piper Nigrum.

It can have some negative side effects with prescription meds as it enhances the absorption and bioavailabilty of certain things including prescription drugs, however this little warning doesn't often get mentioned.

If it works as Bioperine think it does (though it sounds like they're not really sure) the extract works by

a. Increasing blood supply to the GI tract

b. Increasing emulsifying content of the gut

c. Increasing active nutrient transport

Wouldn't those methods, particularly A and B, help increase absorption of whatever food was being digested?

I also saw their website listed amino acids (e.g. "lysine, isoleucine, leucine, threonine, valine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, and methionine") as being "nutritional materials which may be co-administered with Bioperine®". Whether that translates to better absorption of protien powders, I don't know.

  • 1 year later...

Well the Rampage was wicked, no fatigue though still sweating and huffing and puffing still keep going, felt super strong, pump wise didn't notice much on my chubby legs but managed to bust out 100kg squats and 80kg 1 leg press for 10 eac leg so that is a new PB

We stock rampage and some other metaphysics products. Have not had any bad feedback on the product at all. In fact a lot of guys and girls seem to prefer it over superpump 250.

It's a good energy kick:)

$100 bucks is full retail. We have it on special at the moment for $ 87 and can also do samples for $ 5.
