PIBBA comp in Sept 2005 - to be my first!

:shifty: Hi there!

I'm 16 weeks out from competing in my first BB comp - I'm looking at doing the PIBBA comp in Sept and I'm keen on doing either Shape or Figure class. I'm seeing a nutritionist - had my first appt with her this morning which went really well HOWEVER, I am 67 kgs, 33% bodyfat with 45kgs Lean Mass! She has confirmed that 16 weeks is still enough time to get down to contest condition of 10% body fat so my comp weight should come down to 55kgs - my lean mass should increase to 48kgs. The diet she's given me is really good - lots of variety, my meal plan is 1200 cals per day, I can even have 2 glasses of wine per week, yay!! Alcohol has always been my weakness :)

Anyway, I am feeling quite anxious and nervous about the whole thing - I've joined a new gym and I've got an excellent trainer and programme so hopefully, everything will fall in to place. I'm just a bit concerned about my body fat percentage, even with my nutritionist saying not to worry too much about this at this stage. Just wondering what you guys think and whether anyone else has been thru the same thing!!

Welcome, foxy! And well done on having the guts to do a comp. You won't regret it - it'll push your commitment and intensity throuhg the roof!

Several of the girls here have done, or are doing the same thing. I'm sure they'll introduce themselves soon. :)

Hey thanks for that! I'm going to start putting in my workout journal as well. I think that will help keep me motivated. It would be great to hear from some other girls who may be working on their first comp. BB sounds like a lonely sport! I've wanted to compete since last year and have finally got my butt in to gear this year to do one!

I have been rearing to go to enter into a competition since January last year but I only started training May/June last year. I thought that I would have been ready for a competition in September but alas I am not. (When I say ready, I mean a body of a very high standard. Sure I could put a tan on, compose a routine & get up on stage, but I would rather not embarrass myself! )

If you are having doubts about getting down to a pre contest fat percentage then maybe it is not a good idea for you to compete yet? I would hate for you to compete and have a negative experience... Good things take time and there will always be competitions for you to compete in!

You mentioned that you were going to post your training diary. In addition you could post some pictures and see what others have to say.

I wish you the best of luck and I have the utmost confidence that you will be successful in achieving this goal! :D

thanks for your words of encouragement!! I had a work out session this morning, did my legs..went really well - however, I didn't do any cardio today, so looks like I'll be doing an hour tomorrow :(

I found out this morning that there are 13 other girls at my gym who are doing the same comp I'm doing in Sept, so thats given me some motivation to really go hard for the next 16 weeks!!

I'm not sure - the owner at the gym was telling me this morning about the other 13 girls competing. I did speak to a girl a couple of weeks ago who was competing in the same comp, she is looking at doing the Physique class whereas I am hoping to do the Figure. We're about the same build. Gym I'm at is The Environment Gym in Akl.

Of course you could be better in a year's time - but the point is, in 16 weeks you could be in the best shape of your life so far, having done something so challenging most gym-goers are too scared to even dream of it! Where you place then, and where you could place in a year, is completely irrevelant. 8)

I'm sure Lynne would tell you if she felt you couldn't do it in time, Foxy. GO FOR IT!!

If you are in the best shape of your life in 16 weeks, congratulations! However, you may not be up to competition standard.

Unfortunately too many people are being told by trainers that they are ready for competitions when they are not.

As many of you avid bodybuilders will know, it takes years to sculpt a body - longer for women. I have been extremely disappointed with the standard of the womens classes in the shows of late.

I think it is the circles I move in - our standards seem to be a lot higher than the norm.

I have been extremely disappointed with the standard of the womens classes in the shows of late.

does this refer to all the competitors across the field of classes or the winners?

There will and should always be a range of standard and at novice level competitors are getting the experience they need for the first time and I would not expect them to be at the same level of presentation as the more experienced.

If someone feels they are ready they should go for it or on the advice of someone they can rely on and trust

Hey there!

Good on ya for giving it a go! I am going to be doing the october NABBA competition and I started at 26% body fat and 61kgs, I am hoping to do figure as well! I know all about the gitters of am i good enough, will i be able to get my body into shape, will I be able to resist temptation with food or a drink, but the one thing that gets me through it all is the determination to achieve my goal - I know if you just believe in yourself enough you can do anything you set your mind too! So you're definetly not alone with your feelings! Keep up the hard work, try not to skip to many workouts - cause it hurts trying to catch up and for those of us with slighter higher body fat we cant afford to many slip ups! Happy training!!! :)

good to hear from someone who is going thru the same thing!! I think as long as I keep to the diet and my training, I'll be sweet - I'm not too worried about the fat loss as I know I have a lot of muscle mass and I'm just working on building that up. I'm currently at 45kgs of lean muscle mass - my trainer has advised to work on increasing this to at least 48kgs in the next month or so. My cardio has now increased to 7 days - 40mins first thing in the morning, minimum 30mins if I don't do 40mins..if I miss the morning session, then its an hour in the evening after work. It's all good - I'm enjoying the training at the mo :D

Have u done a comp before??

hey foxy, babe go for it!. just make sure you have a good trainer that is going to be honest with you. i have seen some right twats out there that have been getting paid to get their clients on the stage by X time. regardless of condition. but if you are mega disciplined don't skip your aerobics do an hour a day minimum and keep with your weights you'll be fine.

A word of warning, that alot of the lads have experieinced, alcohol has a lot of calories in it that would need to be burnt off. I am really surprised to read that your dietician said you can drink it.

Who is the dietician, do they know the standard that you will need to be at for the show? otherwise good luck and I hope you have heaps of fun at the show. Stay with the diet and train hard.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Yep I have a very good trainer - Lynnie Wright at the Environment Gym, she is the owner & partner of Tony Ligaliga (not name dropping or anything). She is really good - keeps me on my toes with her unexpected phone calls to me at work! The dietitican I'm seeing is Alison Rainbow at RNC - she is an ex body builder who knows her stuff and has a good rep so I'm pretty confident that she would let me know that I couldn't do it within my 16 week timeframe :)

So all in all, I have two very hard ladies on my back that are monitoring my progress and ensuring that I stick with the training and diet. I've always needed someone that is strict with me otherwise I can go astray and cheat, as I've known to do in the past! This time around, I am sticking to my diet & training and am keeping my fingers & toes crossed that I get down to a suitable comp weight by Sept.

The comp in October will be my first! I have been training pretty hard with weights for the last 18-24 months but never really did any cardio! I'm really lucky at the moment coz I've met a few other girls doing the same comp and we are getting together to talk about EVERYTHING! You should think about organising something like that with the other girls at your gym, I tell ya what it makes ahuge difference to your motivation levels, especially when you know for evry bad day you have theres someone going through the exact same thing and it so good to be able to talk about it with people that dont get sick of hearing about bodybuilding. Keep up the hard work :)

What class are you competing in this year? And what comps have you done in the past?

I'm on track at the mo - just started 4 weeks ago, so I'm exactly 12 weeks out from comp. I'm starting to think about all sorts of food now!! Went out to dinner last night - went to an Italian restaurant, and all I could think about was how good it would be to have heaps of mashed potatoe with lashings of butter with my steak!! But I didn't give in - I stuck to my veges with my steak and had the sauce on the side! My partner of course had the yummy creamy potatoes with his main as well as ice cream for dessert - oh well, my time will come I'm sure after this hard slog :)

not sure what class as yet, usually do Physique over 57kg......but waiting to see what I look like closer to the date!! Yeah the more comps you do the harder it gets so they say, but i'm handling it well at this stage - shouldn't speak to soon. Spoke to Linni the other morning, and not changing much just yet, as things are still moving nicely!!! Yay.....anyways, keep it up one day at a time hey. Keep me posted

Had a session with my Nutritionist this morning - went good...

I'm 65kgs, 29% b/fat, 46.7 kgs lean mass - current fat loss rate is 1.5kg 2 weekly, need to get this up to 2kg 2 weekly or in other words, a loss of 1kg of fat per week. My diet has been left as it is - however, she's told me to up my cardio, need to do 60mins minimum every day....(I've been doing 30-45mins five days a week). Bodyfat is still coming down slowly so I'm feeling quite anxious & a teeny weeny bit stressed :shifty:

Overall, I have been training hard - diet is going pretty good too... its definitely a slow process though! Only 12 weeks to go now!!
