The Police Raids

Stuff's website is running really slowly for me at the moment. I guess they're being swamped with hits.

^ Those snippets of bugged conversations are pretty disturbing. I'm sure they're only the "juiciest" snippets, and there's no context given, but even so it certainly sounds like more than just people talking shit. :?

EDIT: Although, as this rather biased press release points out, by publishing these conversations, the suspects are being subjected to trial by media, which is not entirely fair.

I could be wrong but from my understanding they can't use the evidence in court. It was intended for use under the anti-terrorism act, however can't be used as evidence to prosecute under the firearms charges they are facing, and hence would explain why someone would "leak" it.

What amazes me is the amount of people that try to defend these comments by questioning "what context" the comments were made under. I'd like someone to enlighten me as to what context makes something like this acceptable.

[MOD EDIT: Sorry, the Dominion Post may be in a position to risk contempt of court, but we're not. People will have to follow the links above to see the comments.]

That is very disturbing and makes me wonder if perhaps i should get in to a position where i can defend myself and my family if it really does come to that.

I am curious as to what you have to say about this naupuhi???

I think I'll keep a one of my "Firearms" handy my friends, sounds like the sane thing to do.

Those conversation snippets do my head in. That sorta shit is way out of control. I applaud the way the police reacted. Based on these conversations, for all the police knew they were heading into a war zone.

I would like to know the reasoning behind not trialing these guys on terrorism charges. Perhaps there was some pressure from the labour government not to.

Totally agree with that if the law was easier to interpret they would all have been in very hot water, and wouldn't be so bloody smug now. Remember the solicitor general said that the police were right to bring this matter to him and react the way they did.

funny how the people defending that idiot tame iti have gone all quiet....

if this was any other country he would of been hung and quartered a long time ago.

context dosn't matter when you speak about things like killing the next prime minister john key etc. ''they wouldnt know were it came from"

still wanna defend that ugly git tama iti and his followers napuhui ?. it disgusts me that all these losers on this hikoi have condemned the actions the police have taken and are prepared to stand by these radical clowns that only want to ruin this country , the public need to stand up and be counted on this one this bull shit is not acceptable , they need to be charged for conspiring these acts , which can only be described as plain out terrorism , if found guilty they should never see the light of day again

I don't think you guys will be alone in feeling like this. I imagine there will be major reppercussions because of this info becoming publicly available.

Uh oh. :shifty:

Many are protesting because of the excessive way it was handled. As the clip above said, there were THREE people involved in the radical conversations that came to light, and yet a whole village as well as other people throughout the country (including a Pakeha family from Taupo who got their hotel turned upside down) were raided.

And there's a reason Tame Iti is out. He has done nothing aside from using his right to freedom of speech and some relatively minor firearms charges. You have assumed for yourself that Tame Iti is in a scheme with these three radicals when there is nothing out there to support this.

Cheers for the links Pseudonym.

I think the police were justified in being excessive. As I mentioned they had no idea what they were heading into & so they had to keep the worst case scenario in their minds when they carried out these raids.

True what you say about Tame Iti, however I would like to see if any other evidence comes to light.

think what you wanna think legendkiller , where theres smoke theres fire i support the police (as do the majority of new zealand ) for what they have done , the people of ruatoki only have themselves to blame for all this crap , how many people here would be happy for a terrorism style training camp to be in their backyard ? i wouldnt put up with it nor should they've , weather or not there were 3 people or not at the root of it all dosent change a damn thing ,the whole community knew what was going on, and supported what was going on, and you'd either be a fool or bloody naive to think otherwise .

If this happened in the States all three would most likley have been shot by the police in the raids, they should count themselfs lucky.

And in my mind theres no such thing as a " minor fire arms charge" If your not gona use firearms responsibly you dont have the right to have one in your possession.

If the evidence that was leaked is true, people possibly would've been more understanding of that than the wide scale raids that happened. We're not talking about three people getting raided, we're talking people over a radius of a few hundred kilometres with very vague links if any existed at all to the accused.

And in my mind theres no such thing as a " minor fire arms charge" If your not gona use firearms responsibly you dont have the right to have one in your possession.

I would be willing to bet many here would've sympathised with the gun shop employee who shot the guy with the machete in his shop with a firearm that was unlicensed.

Possessing an unlicensed firearm would be a minor firearm charge to me in comparison to say, shooting someone with one.

There is no comparison between someone using a firearm in self deffence and someone making a menace of them self or endangering the public.
