Im 5'9" and currently 89kg and 40 years old.

I was 106 kg a year ago, then i made a step change to my lifestyle, sick of being fat, and ugly with it.

It has taken some hard work, a lot of sweat, gym 2 to 3 times a week, squash in between. and baisically, i dont diet, i still eat what i want, I just eat less of it. Im real happy with progress to date. Sex life has never been better ;-)

Problem.

Ive stoped making gains, ive plateaued out, not losing any more weight, especially where i want to loose it. Ive been 90 ish kg for a couple of months now and muscle mass hasnt changed much. Its harder now to eat less, and i still have a bit of a pot belly. Its way harder to make gains than when I was in my 20s

Goal - to loose my pot belly and lean out a bit.

1) Should i take Creatine, and what sort / brand.

2) Should i take protein supliment, im worried I will put on more weight with this combination

Any advice, especially about loosing my spare tyre around my middle, would be appreciated, perhaps by a middle aged person who knows where im coming from.

Hi Hopsterman

Welcome to nzbb.

You mentioned in your post that you eat what you want - that is probably where most of the problem lies in regards to your pot belly.

Try to eat 5-6 small meals a day & eat clean (low fat, low sugar & good portions of proteins & carbs).

How much water are you drinking a day? - try to drink at least 600mls (a pint) of water with each meal and more in the gym & while you play squash.

In regards to creatine - may as well give it a go.

The brands are all much of a muchness unless you're looking at going down the kre-alkalyn path which I personally prefer but it does cost a bit more.

There is no problem with supplementing with a good protein powder so long as the rest of your diet is in check & you are taking into account the protein intake with the rest of your daily diet - real food is always the better choice but a good powder is great for convenience when cooking up a feed is not possible.

You may also want to look at changing your routine if you have been doing the same thing for quite a while - this may help with strength & size gains.
