the casin in the milk slows the absorbtion of the protein therefore released slower into the system while you sleep. thats a good thing. just use a low fat milk if your worried about cals

NZPT

its not realy the fat that im worried about, more the carbs that im tking in before bed which migh be stored as fat

if your really worried you can try a night time protein that is just a slower releasing protein. But to be honest if your training hard and looking to grow your body will need them to keep anabolic over night when its trying to repair.

Use the milk it adds to the protein content of the shake also.

wont the carbs be stored as fat since my metabolism decreases while im sleeping?

No I dought it you are fasting for 8 hours aren't you? Anyway there are plenty of other parts of your diet to look at tweaking before worring about that.

hi,

i found with protein shakes,id go smooth(think skined) from having them at night with milk or for any time of the day for that matter,

if i have a shake i only have it with water, ctting up or massing up.i find my body obsorbs it better too.

id never have milk product type protein shakes within 3 months of a comp, but thats just me .i always wait 45 mins after training to eat or drink anything other than just a lil water.and wouldnt have anything within a hour of going to bed ether, but thats just me again.

:pfft: real food (EGGS)!

i opose that statement mate, for the fact that when you sleep you can go into a catabolic state if you dont have sufficent nutrients, particularly protein to keep protein synthesis high. milk slows the release of protein therefore providing a longer anabolic enviroment nessacary for growth. Remember its when we are sleeping we release the most growth hormone and do all our repairing!

but hey if that works for you great but for most i would recomend a shake before bed

have ya shake m8,

ill still go for the real food,a old saying:if man makes it,dont eat it!

and theres a big push for product sales out there from pts, gyms eg...

im both of them, but i wont be a sheep.

you would find eating meat 1 hour before bed would have your body in a positive state for your sleep.

im with you on that real food is best, but the neeed for an alternnative is still there. alot of us dont have the job that alows us to eat a full meal every 3 hours so sometimes shakes come in handy, i think you'l find alot of people in the city areas are much the same. this is why we use shakes, so thats why PTs etc push them because its better to get it from a shake if you cant get it from a meal.

You may see this as being a sheep using protein shakes but in reality its catering for a diffrent lifestyle then possibley yours.

Anyway off track, use a protien shake, or egg whites before bed better to have some protien in the system while fasting

Agree with you there NZPT plus I find it hard to eat solid food before bed and I'm nt 100% sure that it is good for your digestion or your stomach? I have no evidence to back that up but it doesn't feel right especially if you try to eat a decent amount!

One thing i hate about having protein shakes before sleep is I always wake up in the middle of the night for a piss

Egg whites are my fav for sleeping,

Boil, eat, sleep, leave pot out for breaky egg whites :)

agreed. i take whey with phenylalanine in it, so after a cronic piss, i get cronic

arse explosions of gasses :)
