yeah, same here... the louder the better. Unfortunately the receptionist in my gym prefers softer stuff (Keane, Norah Jones, etc) :x

So I've taken to using an MP3 in the gym too... my gym playlist has some old stuff (ACDC, Iron Maiden, Guns' n Roses) and some new stuff (Franz Ferdinand, Linken Park) - but it's all loud and fast!

I have an Mp3 Player and a lot of the music on it is House, Rave and older dance music. I use my MP3 player more for cardio and that type of music has a good beat to exercise to. Paul Oakenfield, Paul Van Dyke etc etc.

Sometimes when doing weights I will listen to metal though. Don't know that they will play metal at the gym that I fo to though. May have to have some in a folder on my PC then I can swap my music around on the MP3 player.

My gym recently installed a TV in the weights room, so now they play music videos rather than CDs...

Nice idea, but the result is a roomful of people like this:

Now thats a good idea!

Deegee - nah my gym is simple tuned in to a local radio station. You can change the station if you like, and if there arent many people in the gym you can put your own cd in, but most of the time its just radio.

mmmmmm - Tv playing music videos while working out

My old gym put a TV in the room. Must have spent a bloody fortune on it and sadly some of the equipment was lacking and I felt they should have put the money into that. I much prefer just good quality sound and equipment. That and actually looking at the scenery in the gym. Thats one of the reasons folks go there hopefully.

My gym has 8 or so TVs, and allows people doing cardio to plug a set of headphones into their machine and tune into which ever one. For those of us doing 'real gym work' ;)- there is just random 'popular' music playing.

When I take my iPod I actually depite hating the band generally quite like listening to Linkin Park.

The ipod goes everywhere....at the mo it's got Danzig, Lost Prophets, Armin Van Buuren too name a few. Can't stand Juice TV in a gym though, years of working in gyms breeds one's contempt for NZ music tv.

I usually complain if the staff put on ZM or radio stations like that. The last thing I want to hear is Pauline Gillespie crapping on about some shit that really doesn't have any importance to anyone whatsoever!

END RANT!

one day it just froze then when I plugged it into the computer it showed a picture of a sad ipod then never did anything again. I looked in the manual and it said if this logo comes up (the sad ipod) its history.

so its back to the gyms 1 cd that always seems to be playing when I am there

At my gym they have Juice playing on tv screens - usually plays a lot of crap music though. Thankfully, I have my beloved Ipod :) I listen to Metallica, Groove Armada, bit of J-Lo, maybe a little bit of hip hop - generally, I'm tuned in to Metallica though

Hey I like Dance music, A studie was conducted once by a very prominent university in the USA for a large gym chain on the effects of different music beats on the gym membership. It looked at different beats per minute as oposed to the heart rate and what effect this had on the members working out.In short it was found that music that was played loud and was considerably faster than the heart rate created a better mind set and performance base for the members, than music that was played at a slower tempo and a softer pitch.

It was even noted that strentgh capabilitys and endurance levels were elevated with the faster pase dance style music than say that of the easy listening varity!

Intresting I thought ,prehaps that is why all top gyms I have been into around the world play this type of music??
