Who here incorporates organs into their diet- liver, kidney, heart etc?

Ive heard they are much more nutrient dense than the muscle..

Personally, i was put off as a child when my dad bought me a steak and kidney pie which was grotty as.

what do you guys do with organs if anything?

PS- Ive taken over gyzzbrahs 'Diet' thread where i will be posting my daily meals. Yes thats right gyzz.. feel free to follow.

That's dog food.

Literally. The alpha male always eats the kidneys, liver and heart first after a pack kill.

Im a butcher and mince beef meat and calves liver, whack it in the freezer and sell it as "Paleo" mince...

Lamb kidney still sells, people use it in pies. But offal is kind of old fashioned, today's day and age we can have everything we want so kidneys, hearts etc aren't on your shopping list.  I personlyy don't cook with it but You could definelty incorporate it without that "eww" factor. Beef cheeks, and tail have made a come back so who knows, offal might too! But haha yea, it's good in dog food

Yeah, I have liver and kidneys occasionally. I tell myself they're good for me, and actually they taste fine. You just have to dress them up right.

A while back I went to a restaurant that specialises in offal (http://www.cazador.co.nz/) and had, among other things, tripe and chicken hearts. (Chicken hearts are amazingly tiny - there would have been 20-30 on the plate, which makes it very clear just how many animals have died for your meal!) It was interesting, but I stand by my belief that if tripe and chicken hearts were worth eating, we'd all be eating them.

eat chicken liver now and then, maybe on monthly basis.. dunno how to make it myself in desirable manner but the mum can cook it right. it goes nicely as finger food. not something i incorporate in to my regular diet, just have it because it's there, doesn't taste horrible and is apparently somewhat nutritious.

in restaurants i tend to get something i wouldnt normally eat at home, just because why not, experiences etc.

chicken hearts dont taste good though, no matter what people say, tiny little rubbery salty balls. not a fan at all.

i see odell manuel posts meal of big plate of rice and chicken hearts like 50 of them, think that must be disgusting.

Difference is that nz isn't a 3rd world country (yet) and most of us can afford proper food as well as access to actual doctors rather than the village witch doctor.

I used to have anemia and very low hemoglobin until I started eating like man! :) Chicken stomachs are my favourite dish still, sauteed with onions, grated carrots and mushrooms  served over a bed of kasha made of toasted buckwheat. Staple Russian meal rich with micronutrients.

And I grew to love liver - fried/braised with finely chopped onions and grated carrots, cooled and blended with some salt and spices into a pate :) yum

  • 2 weeks later...

Ox Heart 500g

Cost: $2.50

Preparation:

Cut into small bits that are easy to cook, throw into frying pan. Add some oil to pan, and 2 OXO Beef Stock cubes. Fry till evaporation of steam from meat slows down.

Review:

Awesome dense and very lean meat, easy to eat as prepared and tastes great with the added beef stock.

10/10! Perfect bodybuilding meal
