Nightly abs

Recommended Posts

Anyone heard of Cory Gregory doing his nightly ab routine right before bed? I know the guy does a bunch of crazy stuff but what exactly is the point of this rather than doing it during his daily workouts?

My thought was perhaps it was because it avoids doing the ab workout after already being fatigued, but that wouldn't explain why he does it right before bed rather than just any other time of the day. Is this meant to be some sort of a feeder workout or is there any real benefit of doing an extra ab workout before bed?

dont know who he is, guess hes some fitness guy selling diets / workout plans. whether he does or doesn't actually do that i don't know. maybe there is a real theory behind it but IMO it's probably just a fad hes trying to push across as a point of difference. everyone out there trying to be a PT these days is trying to push some 'crazy secret' to differentiate themselves from the rest. people don't want to hear that it's all about dieting and hard work in general so new 'tricks' like this make the sales.

^ This.

I can't see how there's any way that training abs before bed would be better than any other time of day. And, if it is, why does it only apply to abs, and not to every other muscle group?

For that matter, I don't think it's necessary to train them every day, either. Train them hard and heavy, once or twice a week - just like any other muscle.

There are a few bodybuilders, Rich Pana comes to mind, who advocate "Feeder" workouts each night before bed.

Usually focusing on Delts or Arms, I think, but Calves and Abs would fit into the same bill. And its basically hit the target muscle with some high volume pump style training each night before bed, for 3-4 weeks I believe, as sort of a specialisation routine. Then swap to the next muscle group.

I think it could be a good way to help bring up lagging muscle groups potentially if you're consistent with it as it forces more blood and nutrients into the muscle, this should increase recovery and hypertrophy from the heavy sessions you already do.

Even if there is only a small increase in hypertrophic activity from it, you'll have that "pumped" look every day which in turn makes you look better anyway and give's the illusion of better proportions etc, which is what bodybuilding is all about.

I don't think there's anything special about hitting Abs at night time, and like people say it is likely him just making a point of difference for himself. But if you make it part of a routine and actually do it it's better than what most people do and treat Abs as an afterthought and quite often skip them.
