Moving to New Zealand

Hey everyone!

So on the 21st June I'm moving to New Zealand in the hope to stay permanently but gonna do some travelling first.

Anyone know any good gyms I should visit in the North Island?

Also I'm going by myself so if anyone knows good ways to get to know people over there would be cool.

Cheers :)

Probably gonna have to be more specific with what youve got planned to get any real answer. If i was you id probably just join up to snap or a similar chain with at least one gym in most major towns and cities in nz that you can use 24h.

Ones ive been to in nz mostly pretty shit but its convenient that you can go to any one while travelling round etc for $15-20 a week rather than $20 a session which is casual rate at lots of gyms and is fucking rip off.

Welcome mate! Is that you in your profile pic? Looking good if it is.

PETN's advice is good. I don't know whether it's a NZ thing, but casual gym rates are ridiculously expensive here. If you're moving around the country and want to train, check out Jetts or Snap or CityFitness gym memberships.

Having said that, if it's "destination gyms" you're after, then Les Mills Victoria Park in Auckland is probably the closest we've got to bodybuilding mecca. Or Powerhouse gym in Wellington if you're a powerlifter.

Hi mate thank you!

yes that was my first show last year in fitness model class after an 8 week diet unfortunately the feedback was I was too big for the class but thanks appreciate the compliment!

Ahh ok well I'm in Auckland to start with for at least a week and depending on work I may be there for longer as I have no employment set up yet but I'll give those gyms a go. I'm currently dieting for BodyPower which is a big expo we have in England as I'm working with some pro bodybuilders so need to hold my own haha.

thanks again!

Mate at least in auckland you've got plenty of opportunities for getting a decent job. Gyms here are good and plenty of cheap eats around. Souths just cold and miserable over winter with fckall to do. Only worth a holiday in south over winter

Pretty much whole of nz including auckland basically the same over winter last i checked?

Get a slightly better paying job in auckland then piss it all away on ridiculous rent. Cant even drive anywhere easily after work etc including driving home. Half people there cant even speak English properly or at all.

If i ever go back to nz sure as f*ck wont be to auckland. Worst place ive ever lived. Plenty of nicer places in both north and south island.

I agree with @PETN there are jobs elsewhere is nz, after living around and working in Auckland, its shit. Ive been back too for a holiday, both me and the wife dont want to live there again, and if you cant handle the cold down south, your just a soft ass jaffa kent.

I heard Auckland is pretty mad expensive and to be honest I want somewhere kind of scenic but I guess I'll see in 6 weeks haha. I'll be travelling to start with anyway so will be visiting quite a few different places

hey man,

I came to NZ for a bit late december.. here for the year from the states. Was just like you posting and googling to find nice gyms. Glad I found Gymnation itsa  great community here.

Right now I'm in Auckland.

Justworkout is cheap and right in the heart of a city, but a suitable gym for guys like you and me. I liked that one. Cityfitness is good as well, but I only like the one in Newmarket. The one on Queens street in the inner city isnt as great imo.. Les mills auckland city (on victoria street) is basically the mecca here. Flashy and motivating. Check out les mills britomart. Theyre within walking distance. I know les mills britomart has a thing going on soon that you get 10 visits for 10 dollars, which is INSANELY cheap for them. But its slow season starting now for member sales, so theyre trying to boost em that way. Can't go wrong there. But for a perm membership the rates are quite high.

For girls just go out in ponsonby on the weekend in auckland, or use tinder lol.

safe travels. nz is beautiful. the south island i have yet to get to, but looks like a whole nother realm of beauty. Gonna take it before I leave here.
