Slingshot, worth it?

Thinking about a slingshot. bench is at a point where some overload work might help. was considering a single ply bench shirt too, but they look a pain in the ass to get on and off and i think the groove would be way too different. so whats the verdict on the slangers Worth it?

I enjoy Slingshot work as an accessory and a bit of variety. I found I got about 10 percent extra out of it.

Really helped with confidence on bigger weights and developing tightness so that say when you unrack a max weight raw your body isn't  like "Oh f*ck" cos you've  unracked and handled more with the Slanger and it let's you feel the while weight at the top.

Its a different feeling to a shirt, not as cast like. I'd  liken it to the feeling of knee wraps on a squat if you've had any experience with them.

Poverty bench inc. haven't programmed it in much but for me an XL blue is easy to get on and off with me being able to 1rm x 2 generally. I've used a L red sling shot a couple of times with a much much more assistance and a lot harder to get on properly solo.

I think the power cast suggest a blue slanger for most raw benchers who are benching on the lower end of the powerlifting world as it would provide realistic overload.

End of the day it would be a nice tool to have around for some variation aswell.

Interesting I get  more out of the blue one than you then. I must have shitty lockout normally

with 1rm of 127ish I got

In slingshot : 120 x 8  or 130 x 3 or 145 x 1

So essentially a completely false representation of your actual bench? What's the attraction? Is it just to have more weight on the bar? And hey I'm not having a dig cos I'm not a powerlifter so whatever makes you feel better about yourself in the gym is all good. Just what specific assistance does it provide to your actual bench? Overloads the pecs more so helps in the bottom position or is it the fact that you have to lock out hard so it overloads the top position? I don't really understand the application. I know it's useful to work around injuries but wouldn't just working with weights you can actually lift be more effective?

yup

i believe its to overload the top half of the movement.

its definitely an accessory not a main movement and not a common one either. eg was done to supplement a lot of normal benching, not instead of..

@Wookie had me do them as i mentioned i had a few slingshots available at gym.

It is a helpful tool for multiple reasons.

However most people don't train using their brain and therefore just use it as an ego booster.

If you can explain why you would benefit from benching more than your max, using a device that aids off the chest, then you could use one helpfully.

How would you suggest it's used. I think  the slight overload would be beneficial. But not go ape shit with it

I love mine - mines a KW destroyer but they're all pretty much the same. My program from week 3 on my 2nd bench day has me doing some reps raw and some reps with a sling - "overload" which is just that, overloading my CNS and getting me used to holding and controlling bigger weights. It has nothing to do with claiming a higher 1RM, really if you're wanting to buy one or you already own one you should know why you have it and the benefit it offers you. My training partner used mine for the last 6-7 weeks of his training cycle - Natural lifter 93kg class and he's gone from comp 125 to comp 145 at the CD's - not claiming its 100% the sling, but he does his own programming and used the words "f*ck the sling has helped me heaps this last cycle"

Thats what im hoping for, although its not a magic bullet. My old training partner had a similar bench to mine maybe slightly higher, then he got a SS and he put like 10k on his bench

I suppose it would be better than a bench shirt because you wouldn't have to alter your normal pressing line in the same way a shirt forces you too.

think this is mark bells big selling point on it.

he got ed coan in with shoulder pain preaching how good it is for his injury and not changing bar path.

i like the feeling of trying to lock out something way way heavier than you can bench, pressure is intense.

I think board presses are good too, but the advantage of the slingshot is prob the full ROM. still getting some work in at the bottom. Just brought the Full Boar slingshot, better be good. Wasn't cheap

first time using one?

be careful careful when unracking and getting to start position. easy to lose bar forward or back and drop it on your face or guts lol so go light until you get the hang of it. use face savers if you have them
