Any running nuts?

I found out today that I have been entered into a 10km run for 2 weeks from now. My overall cardio fitness is average I guess but I have not run 10km in a long time.

Given that I have 2 weeks to prepare, can any suggest a programe to build up to this run. I currently just jog 2-3 kms 2 times per week.

I need to be able to put in a decent effort on this run. Am I screwed?

Know what you mean I get probs when I get over 105kg but at the mo I am 99 so no problems, however I must do this run so I need to build up to it just wanting to know the best way of doing that.

i really dont know anything about running, but i think it would be pretty simple .. might wanna do some brief running once every 2 or 3 days or somthing like that leading up to the run .. remember its only 10km anyway.. you can do that on willpower alone if you have to

Yep... I'd do a practise run now and see how far you get. Then you'll know what (if anything) causes you problems and can experiment with solutions... If your joints are making trouble, perhaps those pressure bandages would help?

I dunno. Like Jono, I don't DO running - so I'm just speculating here... :D

Managed 8km tonight at a steady jog then picked it up over the last 1/3 felt much better, though I can hardly walk now. I must be using muscles that have not had any hard work for a while. Will have to see how this affects my lifting over the week and my overall weight.

yeah its onr of those "fun runs" but it is one work department against another and I had my name put forward because it is known I am into "fitness" I need to get myself ready as I need to be able to do more than just comlete the distance. Its a good challenge and I will probably get my BF down in the traing process. Most likley lose a bit of valuable muscle too!!

Cant see the "fun" part myself either

Training has been effected a bit as my general energy levels are a bit down and I fell it is harder to get into the lifting.but it is only for another week and a half so I can handle that.

I remember why I dont like intense cardio!

Thanks there Brad I wil try your method

  • 2 weeks later...

Well the run was yesterday, went really well, i was very pleased with how I went. It seemed to be over really quickly and went much better than some of the practice runs.

I will continue to add a bit of running into the mix because I shed a bit of unwanted bf too and actualy feel better. I think though I will run a max of 4 k or so.
