Maria Sharapova's failed drugs test

Recommended Posts

Sympathetic yes, sucks to get a failed test for something like that.

But it is part of her, or her support crews, job to know what she can and can't take.

If it's on the list then it's tough bikkies really and that's that. Just because it's a recent addition, or that she is a high profile athlete, shouldn't make a difference to the rules.

They update the list basically every year so I'm surprised they overlooked it.

i feel like that excuse is a load of crap. at that level you know what you are putting into yourself, and you know whether that thing has been added to the list. if you aren't capable of figuring that out, someone in your team or someone you employ is supposed to do that.

Unacceptable but not really that big of a deal. they were all possibly taking it up to January this year when it only got banned. It's not going to really get me too excited like it would if it was testosterone found in her test.

should be a penalty of some kind other than that, meh.

Can you not take medications you are prescribed for medical reasons? So if she had a heart condition this wouldn't be allowed?

Yes you can. But she doesn't have a heart condition. I know a guy on the wada register he has bad asthma. He takes prescription medication for it that is on the banned list. And that's fine. Because he needs it.

What about hrt ? If you have extremely low levels were health is impacted would it be allowed? I know in UFC it is or was last I heard but I could see it becoming an issue with individuals approaching dodgy doctors

Well they have an test:epitest ratio which they go by. Not sure what the ratio is but I think it may have been lowered just recently. I could be wrong about that though.  so yeah guess you could get testosterone replacement with synthetic testosterone. I don't think ufc drug testing is run by WADA? I think probably if Dana White likes you then you'd be ok and pass every test. Ufc is a bit like professional boxing, its main goal is making money not making a level playing field.

Ufc testing is done by an outside company that is hired/used by the states athletic commision. Some get tested only while getting ready for fights, bigger names tend to get tested year round even whilst just training to keep in shape. Show up at home or gym and piss test then and there. Say no and youll end up in a hearing to state why(pretty much an instant stand down)

It's a case of tough shit imo.

However, I feel as if the only PED's that should be banned are the ones that can negatively impact your health (AAS, GH, SARMS, Ritalin), especially when some drugs are banned because they "improve blood circulation, especially to the brain which may improve performance".

I was afraid to drink coffee too close to some fights incase I had to piss in a cup because caffeine is on the WADA list.
