Buying lifting shoes. Need help

What kind do you have your mind set on ?

I have some Romaleo's and I got them from Eastbay in USA, cost a pretty penny but they're arguably the best you can get.

You can get Crossfit shoes with a heel in NZ I'm pretty sure, they'll be more versatile and flexible than say a purely squatting shoe but you'll sacrifice a little stability and solidness.

All depends what you're looking for.

Personally I squat in Chucks now and my Romaleo's get very little love lol. But depends on your squat style and mobility.

If you want the best you're looking at a decent outlay of coin but it's a worthwile investment as they will last for years just like a good belt etc as long as you don't wear them around casual etc lol

Yeah I'm after Romaleo's and I have seen east bay. I've heard horror stories about being hit with tax as they come into NZ. How did you find shipping price and length of time it took?

You can buy romaleos from ironedge for 205$ AUD plus shipping. Give them a call for price on shipping.

Theyre the only lifting shoes iv used and love them

I see them for 260 aud? Maybe they went up in price? I think no matter where I get them they will all be relative price wise. Was after the black and red ones.

Depends whether u want a heel or flats. That depends on your squat style

I've been squatting in flats since I started. My ankle and hip mobility is fine. Im at week 12 of smolov and wanted to try heels from now on. I've had mixed reviews of heels vs flats and wanted to try for myself. What do you prefer?

I didn't get hit with any tax, was like $290-$300 all up with shipping and exchange rate. They got here quick as, like probably a week I would say and it was over New Years last year.

It's a big investment if you're only wanting to try them out and don't actually know if you want them or need them.

I agree with Skeletor and prefer Chucks for squatting. If you're mobility is fine and you have no issues atm then I would think to stick with Chucks as it generally allows you to get better Posterior Chain activation rather than a heeled shoe. There's obviously going to be arguments against that as numerous people here squat in Romaleo's but that's my opinion and what biomechanics dictates.

I went to heels for a year found I got ugly when heavy. Folded over and weight all shifted onto lower back also got twisted to my left heaps. Have gone to the Reebok lites which are flat and feel way better. More stable and even. I think I'll end up being stronger in then too. If u don't have issues I think stick with flats. I think you can get more glutes, back and hammie into the lift. Heels is pretty quad dominant. I do squat low bar and pretty wide so flats suit me nice

It is a big investment, especially if you're not sure whether you need heels or flats. Try squatting with a 1.25 kg plate beneath your heels, see how it works.

At least, if you take care of them, you can sell them -  I got my Adipowers from Rogue Fitness, quite quickly, but it turns out I squat better in flats - sold them after about ten trains. I train in Chucks, use my Metal boots for comps (and comp build-up).

In NZ, www.fitshop.co.nz has a good range, just not the Nikes.

If you do buy from overseas, I think the tax still has to be more than $50 for it to be worth collecting, although that may change.

So i received the Romaleo's from Eastbay.com in just 4 days. I cant even believe that shipping time. I had a practice session on Tuesday with them. Did some singles and doubles. I found them really amazing to squat in. Some of my reps were a little bit forward having always squatted in flats. But they felt so solid, like having concrete bloacks on your feet. Here are the first and last sets for getting use to them. The last set felt really good. Even though they look pretty similar. I think 2016 is going to be good for my squats.

Yeah shipping is very fast from them. They seem to become less firm / solid over time but still very good to be squatting in.
