Anyone made one? Or found a good cheap one?

If you made one what did it cost you? Anyone tried making one and using water instead of plates for weight? Interested in any thoughts pro or against also. Pretty keen on the idea but don't wanna pay for the number one fitness version at $399

Gym I'm at now and a gym I used to go to both have an Industrial Athletic one. Pretty solid piece of kit and works well.

Unaware of price but you do pay for quality so may be a bit rough on the wallet.

You could make one easy enough if you had welding experience etc, the steel wouldn't be much, probably $100-$200.

If it costs $100-200 just for the materials, $399 for a ready-made one without all the hassle starts to sound pretty good!

 

Using water instead of plates would drop the price hugely (assuming you need to buy the plates too), but would it be practical? A 50L bin full of water will weigh 50kg, and that's about 40x40x30cm. How much weight do you need to add to these things?

The $200 guess was assuming he didn't have any contacts in the steel or manufacturing industry and that he would want to get it powder coated etc. If you know someone who can get you steel at wholesale or something and don't mind having it just metal looking then could make one for cheap as chips if you know how to weld.

I don't know about the Number One Fitness one either, I think the two that I have used would likely be more pricey but have never looked into it.

50kg is enough to make you work hard doing intervals, tabata etc. But it's definitely on the low end of things for if he started to get stronger and fitter.
