Hi guys, I've gone and got myself a job off the tools, and have to dress flyer than I'm used to. Where do you guys get your threads? Hallensteins can't even cater for my thighs, let alone my lats and arms. Literally tore the back out of a suit jacket when I tried it on. I need a new suit and some nice pants and shirts etc, but prefer not having to remortgage the house for fully taylored shit to get something that fits. Any places you guys recommend?

i have the same problem now bro (corporate office job checking in) and have been through so many pants that rip on the ass or quad when sitting down

few options depending on price range

1. buy size much too big for yourself, take it to one of those small asian alterers, there is usually one in each mall and they can do it while you wait, explain what you want carefully, usually take in waist, maybe take in calves a little bit if they are legit huge eg taper a tiny bit, no need really. might cost 20$ per pair of pants to take them in. ones im wearing right now i did this.

2. if you have more money you can go custom made, few places do it, take your measurements, make you pants, im not sure of cost on this but few of my mates do this even though they fit normal pants (wanker status is high)

3. if you are going to thailand/anywhere else in asia stock up on custom made

4. shirts/jackets are never really a problem, long as you dont go slim fit. end up quite a boxy looking old business man fit but ohwell

if you want a slim fitting suit, stop lifting weights, run lots, get skinny lol

Im a bigger guy and gave up on all of the main outlets like Hallensteins years ago.

I have found certain ranges of business shirts from Farmers fit okay.  Barkers fit me up with some nice gear too but its pretty pricey cos I have to get it all altered at the dressmaker.

Probably the best place Ive found for off the rack stuff is Tarocash

Oftentimes you'll see ads in the paper for tailors from Singapore or Hong Kong - like these guys:  http://www.raja-fashions.com/make-an-appointment?country_name=New%20Zealand (although their prices look a bit steep).

Not sure how you'd find them without buying the newspaper... they're often advertised in the business section.

They setup in a hotel for a few days, and do a good deal on suits n shirts.  They're legit, using decent hotels in the CBD (like the Amora in Wellington)  - the order goes back to the factory and the goods turn up quite quickly.

They're basically doing the same thing as all the tailors over there do - they will do made-to-measure for less than the off-the-peg price here, with the added benefit that it fits :)

Oh, and you can often get an extra pair of trousers in the same material for an extra $100 - try doing that with a Kiwi suit.

+1 on that, custom doesn't have to be expensive and nothing else feels just right after you wear a suit that fit you properly. i note though, if you training a lot and likely to change composition one way or the other, don't invest in that just yet because it's annoying as a mofo when you gotta go out and dish out the $ again

there is a huge range of mens clothing out there, hallensteins is definitely not the place for athletic build and above guys, most of their range is modern slimfit stuff, i'm only 60kg not even that big and their range of slimfit tops, jackets and pants in my waist size just doesn't fit comfortably, i wear 39cm neck and it gets super tight around the chest, if i do something like reach foward with arms the back could tear and sleeves end up coming halfway up the forearm looks lame as... and if you go higher neck size it looks stupid especially if you wearing a tie

i like the look of proper fitted shirts but from my experience slimfits are made for people who don't lift at all (or NZs slimfit cuts are borrowed from the chinese market rather than european where it's more of the cut we want - wider chest, shoulders, bicep but slimmer waist) so i end up getting the regular cut and taper them in the way my uncle showed me (hes a tailor). you can pay like $30 per shirt for someone to do it for you but once you get the hang of it, it's like 5mins to put the pins in to get the shape you want, then 5min run it through the sewing machine, job done.

pants you'd probably wanna buy bigger size and have them taken in at the mall tailors for $20 or so, don't need as many dress pants as you do shirts so even custom is not such a bad idea.

.. and that's my fashion advice, #nohomo bro, i've done my years in client facing formal wear work, you wear cheap looking shirts or your clothes don't fit you well you don't get taken seriously, dress to impress lol

Thanks guys, will be going through the motions this week for now with some cheaper options, to get me through until I get the work discount I've been promised from Barkers, (found out today), then I'll probably do as sounds good has done, and get the quality stuff, and get it fitted to me.

Yeah it won't be everyday dealing with customers, I’ll be national technical support for a prestigious euro car brand, so when I go visiting dealers etc, I have to fit in with the snobs and the wankers. Ahahaha.

Also if anything, hopefully I only get slightly slimmer, sitting on heavy side of 110kg these days, not fat, but ain't got those washboard abs. Ha.

Will keep an eye out for something like this, its gotta be less risky than just measuring my self and sending measurements over the net.

SG wears a moomoo

WTF is a moomoo??

Edit, Google told me.

moo moo

A rectangular cloth with crude stiching worn by morbidly obese persons.

Becca said, "Dude, I've gained SO much weight, I need to wear a moo moo!"

OR

Sounds like Moo Moo, correct spelling is Muumuu. It's a loose dress originating from Hawaii. Morbidly obese people typically wear muumuu's. It looks like they were made out of a flowery set of curtains

OR lastly,

moo moo

uh moo moo is uh big-ass night gown or dress that big-ol's wear.

my grandma wears moo moos with no underwear.
