Im assuming its just flights and accommodation for $5k or $10k? Why is it so expensive? Seems like a lot compared to the normal cost of airfares and accommodation for either of those places

As I said the national body NABBA is responsible for travel accommodation etc so you would need to ask them these questions.

do you have to pay them and they organise the flights and everything?

surely you just have to be there on the day etc and its not their concern how you do it?

might be able to cut cost a bit if you get your own flights? just a thought to take a bit of the pressure off?

il chip in on the givealittle anyway

Thanks Maccaz I appreciate your help.

In answer to the questions, I guess when you are travelling as part of a team that the organising body likes a degree of cohesiveness between team member to foster the spirit so to speak, so this is why they organise things to be more consistent.

Also maybe to eliminate the risk of competitors getting it wrong and not being in the right place at the right time. Heaven nows dieting bodybuilders are mentally challenged at the best of times.

And yes once I have experienced international competitions I may well look at the possibility of booking independantly, but this first time everything is such an unknown, and this is the last thing I need to be stressing over. Stress can wreck all the prep you have put in.

Ill give you $500 if you and Boosting sing "You're the one that I want" by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John together in a video duet.

Amusing and well worth the effort, but knowing Boosting I do not think he would appreciate this, seriously!

Do you have any friends in the supplement industry rebel? If you could get a few companies to donate various things you could do a raffle etc like Realtalks one. Ill chuck in a bit to help through that site though to help

No unfortunately I have no contacts in the supplement industry, I have not yet marketed myself, and I am not like these bikini girls who are willing to claim they are sponsored when all they get is just a discount on purchases.

Jim Pitt or whoever has been running nabba for decades... If you are selected they should be funding you at least partly. Are you getting funding from them?

Im not being negative towards you I hope you are able to compete. I just think it sounds expensive and abit Mickey Mouse. If GPC powerlifting fed asked me to pay them

For them to organise my trip I would tell them where to go. Everyone has different budgets people are grown ups and can make their own decisions. Bodybuilding is an individual sport. I would be questioning nabba on all of that... You don't want those old people running that fed taking you for a fool and rinsing you for money to subsidise their own trip.

Bodybuilding, powerlifting and these types of small sub independent Feds are notorious for ripping their own members off.

Contacts aren't needed. I didnt have contacts really, most people in NZ supp industry probably hate me. But you just send them an email stating what you are fundraising for, what you would like contributed and you bundle it all together and raffle it. I would start with companies who have sponsored nabba events they will be aware of what nabba is and I reckon they would help you out. Then put then ask pseudonym and if he give permission put the raffle up on here. At $10 a ticket even if you sold a feeble amount like 30 tickets that's still $300 when it cost you nothing all for sending out like 1 email and copy pasting 19 more. Everyone can be reached on FB. Plenty of people/companies said no to me I just deleted the message and sent it to the next one.

Worth a crack. Will only cost you time.

No.offense taken and as this is my first opportunity l am going in with my eyes open, l suspect l will learn alot!

I understand some funding may be available but definitely not guaranteed, and l do not think it is a good idea to leave it to the last minute to get funding organised.

as an adult not sure why you would take any of what they are telling you at face value. did you sign a contract that forces you to do whatever they say? i can see they enforce people to commit certain way to protect against a no show but that's not the right way to do it.

as an athlete you are putting in the hardest effort, going overseas to represent the federation , they should be subsidising you guys in some capacity not making a profit off your fares, they are already getting paid by indirectly by you showing up.. if they charge you 10k and then offer to subsidise on that, that's also bullshit like shops who advertise twice the price all the time and run 50% off sales full time

if i were you i would draft up my own plans real quickly as well as ask the federation for a complete breakdown. their estimate had to come from somewhere and if they are accommodating for a basket of athletes they probably have the leverage of group discounts and should reflect some level of value back to you, any reputable organisation would happily release this info along with inclusions/exclusions to help you make the best choice for you (unless they got something to hide)

I did something similar to this by emailing different travel agents in Dunedin and asked about if they could spounsor me for my comps this year. Explanded what it was for. Got a emails back from a few of them saying that the sponsor different charties etc which was fine me when I heard back from them.

Rebel would ideally like to be able to pay for my Flights and accommodation on top of her own as she wants/needs me to go along with her. I have attended all her competitions (as I do everyone I comp prep) and she feels she would struggle without me being there. This effectively doubles the projected cost analysis.

The thing you must realise is that l am one of a number of athletes that want to compete, and all the others are willing to pay what they must.

In this environment if l insist on being different l become a problem and the issue then becomes will l be selected in future years.

The bottom line is l still need to do fundraising to help with costs.

Soz br0. Rebel101 good luck with your fundraising. Maybe consider competing in different fed though if nabba is actually trying to scam you with grossly exaggerated costs.

Thanks Boosting, and no l am not leaving all my eggs in one basket so to speak, l am competing at the NZIFBB Waikato Show so l can also qualify for IFBB comps next year, then l will have a choice!
