Moving to Equipped Powerlifting

Thanks guys!  Gonna be interesting, and its also evident that learning the benchpress shirt is going to take a lot longer than the squat suit.

Had an equipped skills session with Dan Rudolph at Kiwistrength today and we widened my squat stance while we worked with my squat suit straps down

Then we moved onto the bench.  Made a video of me putting the shirt on, sped it up from the initial 5 minutes.  Still needed another 5 minutes of taking the slips off, 'swimming into the shirt' and then seating it.

Did some board work then tried to get a touch with 220kg which is just under my raw max.  The last couple of inches are crazy.  Dan gave me some methods to work on where I almost push my body into the bar right at the bottom to force the touch.  Will keep the weight light while I learn this before pushing forward to 600lb+

Hahah imagine putting that shirt on and then getting a mad itchy back, no thanks! PS you need to bulk up a bit you skinny bitch

Thats why Training partners are for.  Putting your suit on, spotting, scratching your back lol.

KK Im working on that bulk, still 5kg away from target weight of 130 haha

First Equipped meet this weekend - GPC Iron Giants push/pull

I had only had 3 sessions in the bench shirt as I couldn't get my arms into the sleeves, just too tight.  So I bought a rugby ball and pumped it up inside the arms which loosened them enough to get into for a proper trial run last night.

I managed to work up to a 260kg paused touched single with regular gym bench, bar and plates.  It was wobbling heaps so it took a while to bring down and touch.  Im sure at the comp with comp grade bar, bench and calibrated plates it will feel quite a bit better.

Heres a video with sound effects lmao

My bench numbers will probably be 250/260/267.5 and if all goes well 272.5 (600lb) on a fourth attempt

The u125kg GPC open record is only 220kg so should smoke that with the opener but the current all fed NZ u120 record is 265kg so would be nice to go over that if I can.

Have no idea how deads will go as I haven't been able to fit into the deadlift suit.  But Ive widened the legs with a basketball so fingers crossed it will be usable.  I deadlifted 300 raw 3 weeks ago so would be nice to at least go over that.  Probably open at 290 then 305 then whatever I feel like on third.

The raw mens division is looking epic, I almost wish I was doing raw so I could be amongst the competition

We have

Don D'Ewes who's had an amazing prep likely to go 205/315 @ 115kg

Geordie Shields who has only just really started back training heavy but looking likely around 215/315 @ 125kg

Dan Holiday always a threat around 235/320 @ 170kg which is lighter than normal so will help his points

Tom Mac would be around 180/330 @ 105kg but will only be token benching so he wont be in overall.  Watch out for the race for biggest deads comp though.

Dale Shepherd is a dark horse and Im expecting 180/330+ from him @ 115kg

Paris could pull an upset.  He is around 99kg and has benched 180 and pulls 300 regularily

Between Tom, Dan, Geordie, Dale and Don I think we will see an epic deadlift battle, all will pull over 300 on their second attempts so thirds will be quite a treat.

Plus plenty of other amazing lifters who will be gunning for PBs

Its gonna be a cracker of a comp!  Miada Avondale on Sunday - come down for a look!

The GPC Auckland push/pull was a huge success today!

Will do a big write up in another thread but some huge deadlifts were attempted and completed

Weighed in at 117.3kg

I benched 250/267.5/275x

250 felt really easy

267.5 bit of a grind but good lift

275 missed on lockout

passed on a fourth attempt

New all NZ fed record u120/u125kg

Deadlifts were a nightmare

The suit doesn't fit my quads,. The pressure on them was insane and I would have been better off lifting raw.

Went 280/305x/305x

The pressure builds as I rise, the bar clips the skin that hangs out from the bottom lip of the suit (very painful) and as I get to the top I'm all out of position and my quads have so much pressure it feels like a blunt knife sawing thru my legs.  Couldn't lock out out at the top both attempts at 305 which was pathetic.

Nevermind.  Onto my Proraw prep now.

I think I'll get a few more sessions in and attack the Mount bench only Comp in 6 weeks and push towards 280kg.  267.5kg with only one session into the shirt was a pretty good result!
