What supplements are good these days

Had a brief yarn with someone about supps this morning, got me thinking

 

What supplements are you guys taking?

 

In the past I have tried a few different things, and noticed literally zero difference whether i use them or not.

 

at the moment I dont even use protein powder just because id rather get those calories from food.

 

might grab some more creatine when a free shipping deal comes up, but apart from that meh

 

see on that other supplement review forum where gymrat lives now, people post this massive list of shit they take, pre workout, intra workout, bcaas, etc, seems stupid, i put money on them noticing no difference whether they take them or not, except wallet weight.

I use 100grams carbs during training especially on my all 3 lift days . Wont go near a pre workout but every once in a while i do and pay for days with no sleep and fast heart.   I normally have a protein isolate on hand to mix with a cup of dry oats and water or milk because its just easy, so will have up to 3 of those a day .  Do i need them ?  No. But they make life easier.  One supp i love is Cellucor aminos in lemon lime just for the taste i would buy it in the hundreds if i was rich and my mrs drinks it to  now.

Lol most supplements are raro and creatine or caffiene I swear. That little asterisk that says "These statements have not been approved" in the fine print and that they're sold as Dietary Supplements mean there is who knows what in there.

I stick to the basics:

Whey Protein - Cos it's easy and cheap source of protein. It's in my diet from Shane so kinda have to have it. And also I have one of the worst sweet tooth's known to man lol, so it's mint to kill that off with a few shakes a day depending on what meals I have. Also tastes mint with Oats/Rice Flakes/Fruit or anything like that.

Fish Oils - For dem Omega 3s braaahhh. Joint health, otherwise I can't lift heavy things lol. I think with these people don't take enough to get a benefit. I have 6-8g daily split morning and evening.

Glucosamine - Literally just for the joints, can't be fucking them.

Pre Workout Home Mix - 4 heaped Teaspoons of Organic Coffee+300-500mg Aspirin. Nothing fancy but does the job. Gives me a bit of a kick in the ass energy wise and better pumps with the Aspirin. Also get more out of the caffiene with the Aspirin, makes it more effective. Apparently a couple studies said it helps mobilise fat too so can't complain about that.

Heaps of Anti Oxidants in Organic Coffee bro, these all get stripped off or destroyed when they freeze dry it to make instant coffee.

And I swear must be stronger amounts of caffiene in it too cos I get way more of a kick from it, whereas instant is hit and miss.

Also tastes a billion times better.

Forgot to mention, I ordered some Protein with my NZMuscle voucher and got a couple things of CLA free. It's meant to be Omega 6 and good for lean mass, fat loss, heart health etc. Have 180 1000mg caps so will take 6g a day for a month and see if any difference.

Also forgot to say with Glucosamine I have 6g a day as well

Well, it IS run by a supplement retailer - I'm sure they're very happy when people post long lists! :P

 

My regular supplement list is pretty short:

- Protein

- Instant coffee (Moccona, because it heft meyr mmm)

 

That's it. Occasionally I'll throw in creatine, and I've got fish oil and a men's multi sitting in the cupboard, but I can never remember to take them, though I probably should. Must try harder.

I just stick with a basic whey concentrate, vit c 500mg 3x a day. Vit D 2000iu mornings and 150mg magnesium before bed.

 

I honestly feel those 3 vits/minerals help my immune system out a lot!

 

oh i also have a bottle of NAC which i take 600mg before drinking, before bed and the next morning but i only drink a few times a year these days anyway lol.

Vitamin C, I've upped that heaps in recent time after learning the massive benefits it has to guys who lift. Usually eat 4-5 x 1000mg pills over the course of a day - always 1 right before weights and 1 right after.

 

Other stuff - pre workout + pump product, BCAAs, glutamine, taurine, protein, thermogenic

 

Once a supp whore always a supp whore, I can't change haha

Wouldnt that much synthetic/pill form vitamin c just colour your piss, with most not being absorbed and subsequently excreted?

What are benefits?

When I got a prep plan for a BB show ( lasted 3 weeks and went PL instead rofl ) it had heaps of vit C pre/post as well.

 

Can't answer the question about absorption bro but my pee doesn't go all yellow like with berocca etc I think that might be vit D or B? but it is water soluble which I think means you do piss a portion of it out which is why I take a heap~

 

side note - i used to chew the chewy ones cos they were yum and man my farts were so gross, used to go into flatmates room drop bombs, close door and he'd come home an hour later and rage hahaaaaaaaa anyways yeah
