NZBB OG Crew Callout

9 out of the top 20 posters are names I still see posting here so can't be that bad of a place aye.

You mean top as in the most posts? Probably because to have that many posts youd have to have been on here for years which increases the chances of them being on here currently. Count up all posters with 500+ posts and tell me what percentage still post here (in the last 6 months say)

Curious to know this but cant be bothered doing it myself. I suspect a higher proportion wont be active currently.

Was good before because of the decent bodybuilding type journals that some of the bigger stronger guys kept.

Now its good to see some decent powerlifting journals as back in the day they were all pretty shit weak people or guys that weighed 120+kg and could deadlift 320kg but not squat 200kg or bench more than 160kg.

Still be good to see some proper bodybuilding journals again though.

I think there are problems with either statistic.

With the top posters stat, you're probably right in saying that these guys are the most loyal (they've certainly invested the most time here), so they're the most likely to stick around for longer.

Then, as you widen the selection criteria to include 1000+ posts, or 500+ posts, or 100+ posts, I imagine you'll find that (on average) the fewer the posts, the less likely they are to stick around for a long time. But the problem with looking at the raw stats here is that the forum's been running for 11 years now - so the longer it runs, the more members we'll naturally churn through, and the more new members join. Thus the percentage of the remaining original crew will get smaller and smaller - even if we didn't lose a single one.

The stat I'd love to see involves how many new members continue to post, say 6 months after they join. Unfortunately, I don't have that stat, but it would be interesting.

Jeez, you're a hard man to please! :D

No, I agree with you - we need the bodybuilders back and stirring shit up (powerlifters are all too mellow!)

IMO, we need to get the word out there that Gymnation is the place to come for "local, expert advice - with no bias or bullshit". What do you guys reckon? Would that be a fair call?

I had a think about this today. yes it is the place for no bias or bullshit, and this unfortunately is probably not what a lot of new members want.

they come from fb where they are used to having their dick sucked and ego stroked 24/7 in a lot of cases, where there are no wrong answers and its basically a big circle jerk of complimenting each other etc. they get cycle advice from the likes of nz clenbuterol or their other mates who are also 18.

problem with this is they come here, get a stern dose of no bullshit (thinking on a few recent threads in steroids section etc) and leave. people are soft and will take the path of least resistance and if they are going to get the answer they already wanted, while also getting a pat on the back, they are not going to get that on this forum. on this forum they will get valuable advice but its pretty much tough love and heaps of people probably leave the forum after they realise they are shit and aren't going to be idolised

so no cure for that i reckon peso, the forum is good, def some expert advice, def no bs, but thats not really what people want any more, most people come from fb, have just been told by their mate what kind of cycle to do etc, they come on here and get slammed straight away because they've got stupid advice, they gonna believe their friend because they choose the advice that fits what they already think.

its a good thing i reckon for the quality of material on here, probably not great for the advertising numbers but yeah.. quality over quantity.

im glad that this is place where ppl often speak their mind rather than just suck each others dicks like on social media

I take your point, but I don't think people are any softer now than they were previously. No-one ever likes being told they're wrong, so that's nothing new (but maybe we could be a little less tough with our lough love?!)

But I just wonder if it's not that people WANT to hear bullshit, it's more that they just don't realise that's what they're hearing. If that's the case, then that's what any no-bullshit message needs to explain first.

  • 1 month later...

I've just logged back in after not posting for about 8 years.

Back around 2007/8 there was some good banter on here: 2-Guns, NZMM, Flex, Samoan Muscle, Luigi, Biggurl etc.

Time flies. Good to see all the improvements you've made Pseudo!

Hey man, welcome back! Awesome to have you on the site again.

Time flies all right. Although to me it feels like the improvements have been painfully slow in coming! But we're getting there. There'll be another big update very soon which will be awesome.. and will finally take Gymnation to about where I wanted to be when we rebranded several years ago! Good things take time, right? :P
