So in Australia there is these gyms called PTC, powerlifting/strongman/strength focussed gyms

first established by Markos Markopoulis in Frankston, Melbourne.

Heaps of strong lifters come out of there, they run lots of competitions etc, best gym iv ever been to.

anyway, Markos started a few years ago writing a regular newsletter with training and nutrition tips, general outspoken kind of rants, all sorts of cool shit in them and has since posted the first 100 issues for free (costs $50 for a lifetime subscription i think)

I checked with him that its cool to post them on here

anyway, if anyone wants a read, i highly recommend these newsletters. heaps of real talk. link below

Just one extract i enjoyed lol:

OBSERVATIONS

Very little improvement is seen in those that chose to watch exercise rather than participate

Effort in is always rewarded with performance out

You don’t need to tell me what you’ve been eating, I can tell

You can make vast improvements at any age

You can’t fake effort

Those that wish to never have a muscular appearance will have their wishes granted

People give up well before they have nothing left

Discipline is sorely lacking in today’s society

The mirror is the worst thing ever placed inside a gym

It’s never too early to start lifting weights

Women care far more about their appearance than men

Most novices underestimate their potential for strength

The average person knows very little about nutrition

The average journalist knows far less

Very few lifters see out what they started

Those that do will never have body issues again

Twenty year olds think they have lots of time to get in shape

Most obese people were twenty at some stage

The average gym junkie thinks the body of their dreams is found in a supplement bottle

The average gym junkie looks like crap

Some of the best sessions are done on days where you feel lousy

Muscle memory is a wonderful thing

Everybody should follow a very strict diet for at least 12 weeks

Very few people can follow a very strict diet for 12 days

Some can’t do it for 12 hours

Never judge a lifter’s ability by their appearance

The body can’t go where the mind hasn’t been

Lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas

You are the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with

Giving up the first time is hardest, it gets easier from then on in

For every set you do for a body part you can see in a mirror, you should do 2 for one you can’t

Lack of money is a common excuse to not exercise, getting fat costs much more

Controlling your appearance is 100% totally in your control

People running on treadmills don’t seem to get too far

There are more fat walkers than any other exercise enthusiasts

Being fat doesn’t have to be terminal, but it usually is

Injury to one area is a great opportunity to strengthen another area, not an excuse to stop lifting

You can’t choose your parents, but you can choose you’re trainer

A diet on a piece of paper is just a piece of paper if you’re a lazy piece of crap

Over 90% of missed sessions can be avoided if the lifter really wanted to train

I’ve yet to meet someone that really wanted to change that couldn’t

The harder someone trains, the better their genetics get

Some lifters can improve with 2 sessions a week, some need 5 to simply maintain

Eating habits are the hardest habits to break for lifters

If you can’t take the emotion out of eating, you’ll soon take the emotion out of living

It’s hard to eat biscuits that aren’t there

Very few people surprise me

Every excuse you can think of, has been used before by someone as lazy as you

Lifters that plan their session with a trainer beforehand, plan not to lift

People’s priorities are so screwed up that they have no chance of improving their mind and body

Kids make the best clients

It is more satisfying watching a client get an impossible PB than setting one yourself

Parents are seldom the best role models these days, though they should be

Ignorant, stubborn women make the worst clients

There are more ignorant, stubborn women than men

Until you accept a training philosophy completely, you have no hope of it ever working for you

The best workouts are the simplest

The more a basic exercise is altered, the less effective it becomes.....sometimes

Training with people stronger and fitter than you is a great way to get fitter and stronger

My favourite clients are the ones who don’t argue

Clients that don’t argue make the most progress

The mirrors tell a better story than the scales

Denial leads to delusion then defeat followed by diabetes and ultimately death

Some of you reading this are too stupid to understand that it may refer to you

Most of you are already making progress that you never believed possible

Thrusters are one of the most all round physically challenging exercises I know of

A poor program done with 100% effort is more effective than a good one done half assed

Most lifters do poor programs half assed

Being good on weekdays and ruining it on weekends is what got you in the shape you’re in now

Creating good habits is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family

Your health is your number one asset, followed by your family. Your job is a fair way down the list

The strongest guys in my gym are also the most humble

Those that make the most noise are simply covering something up

High rep squats are a humbling experience.

Squatting your bodyweight for 50 reps should be a goal for everyone

Don’t mess with nature

Don’t mess with Spiros

Hell hath no fury like Louie before a deadlift

Just because you can fool yourself doesn’t mean you can treat others like fools as well

Self help courses provide help from a fool

The best thing you can ever do for your trainer is to finish what you started

Entering a comp is the best motivation

Everybody gets in a rut, it’s no big deal, unless you lose your shovel

Market food is always better than supermarket food

If you fail to plan your meals, you plan to fail

Help someone out less fortunate than you, it’s extremely rewarding

Mushroom is Latin for no taste

Most people can’t read a food label

Not all whey protein supplements are created equal

Bulldog pups are cutest
