Well had knee surgery a month ago to trim up cartilage and have been given the all clear by surgeon to start lightweights and cycling. What exercises would you guys recommend and set rep range to help build muscle up again

Did they refer you to a physio as a part of your post surgery regiment?

Generally it is a good idea to start out with some light cycling and "slowly" increase the resistance and difficulty of it over a few weeks.

Once you have been cycling and it feels good, you could start adding in some rehabilitative exercises focusing on motor patterns and general strengthen of the muscles that cross the knee joint.

Initially these could be some isolation exercise such as single leg leg extensions, leg curls, calf raises, glute and vastus medialis activation (eg patterson step ups).  Just start well withing your abilities don't push so hard, frequency can be your friend but build up to it. Than you would start to add in single leg compound movements ... than eventually light bi-later movements such as squats etc.

Monitor how it feels during-immediatly following your session and the day after. Adjust from there.

Depending on how much they shaved away ... rehab can be a fairly "fast process" but better to be safe than sorry.

Just in a few words ... good luck :)
