He reiterates though, that it is "absolutely not a pyramid scheme". Isagenix relied on "network marketing", where referrers receive "commission no different to any other sales person in the world".

AUT professor of nutrition Elaine Rush said what "alarmed us the most" was the fact "they brand it about being really healthy saying it eliminates toxins and gains muscle but there's no scientific evidence".

A Google scholar search produces a few articles, most funded by Isagenix with no mention of nutrition. What it does say is that restricting calories and fasting produces weight loss. A study the programme relies on to support their theme – Nutrition backed by scientific research – paints a similar picture. Led by University of Illinois PhD student Krista Varady, the study concludes intermittent fasting and calorie restriction is an effective weight loss technique for women, but makes no mention of nutrition.

It may be marketed as "nutritional", but Rush said the programme was low on "life-giving nutrien

The people with public profile or celebrities if you want to call them that aren't "doing it" they are being paid by the company to promote it.

Only a moron would buy into this rubbish. I don't even bother disagreeing or having a conversation about it with people who do it or are brain washed by it anymore. Waste of breath. If they don't understand why it's shit they can't understand anything you present to them bout nutrition and health.

I can't believe it's taking off like it is. People literally have no idea and they are being taken advantage of. With body image such a priority these days it seems people will do anything to lose weight except eat healthy meals regularly. They take off with a hiss and a roar losing weight because they are starving themselves and ruining their metabolism in the process. Then they balloon out again when they return to eating. Then they get sad and return to Isagenix because they think that's what works.

i have had 4 people message me on fb today after posting about it, saying they were close to buying it.

granted, these are idiot kind of people, but they had no hope of figuring out it was bs on their own, with limited nutritional knowledge they get a friend/someone they trust coming up to them swearing by this product, they buy it without asking any questions

My flatmate with a degree in some biology-type thing gets all kinds of parcels in the mail for fat loss products.

Somehow being taught actual science is still not an inoculation against this crap.

I agree with RealTalk.  If they can't see this is foolish and cannot actually benefit them, then there is nothing you can say that will help.  The opposite in fact - the more you have to say, the more entrenched their beliefs become.  Plenty of research to demonstrate this, and there is even a term for it.  No, I don't remember it.

Isagenix aint got nothing on Muscletech! But seriously my former workmates were all sold on this Isagenix fad just as I left for my new job and they all acted as though it was the next birth of Christ coming to vanquish away all their fatty sins or something!? Now being the former PT, everyone at my former job would quiz me about it and try to get me to draw comparisons with other nutritional products and basically end up arguing over Isagenix results and their friends miracle body transformation saga! They didn't like me saying a modest whole food diet and steady training can be just as good depending on your goals.(I really wanted to say stop eating the shit Cafe Food and drinking all those free Cappuccinos, but it was more like smile and nod from me...Yeah I know..weak on my behalf, but office culture is shit and I did not want to be branded as the person who thinks Isagenix is shit!) What really got me was after several conversations with one person who had been on Isagenix and had admittedly gained good results in their view, was the fact that Isagenix could do no wrong and if you showed any doubt or criticism over it you were basically told...ohhh you dont know what you are talking about and you dont know nothing! Seems more like a cult!

Pseu high jacked me on facebook so I will post a response here :)

Tom has a very fix opinion about it but he's stuck on the business side and probably an inexperienced person tried to over sell the business benefit.  Trying to sell a nutrition system like this to a bodybuilder is like trying to convince Michael Schumacher a Volvo will work like a Ferrari.  I'm not an Isadude but if I was I wouldn't prospect every bodybuilder/powerlifter/athlete I know because ....

... the program is designed to appeal and work for the 80% of the general population of the world that don't know or have time to study science - that are busy and are looking for a system to follow that's easy ....

What if did work?  And we know it does .... what's wrong with people getting a kick back for promoting a healthy lifestyle.  Just because a lot of the science is omitted in the sales pitch doesn't mean it's not going to work.

The issue with most MLM businesses is that you don't get to choose who you work with.  If you get someone who is just in it for the money and looking to reach a qualifying bonus you are just going to get burnt.  I recommend getting into it to a) lose weight and get into a mind-set of success b) associate with other like minded people as this will keep you on target c) celebrate your results (just because you are not a pro athlete doesn't diminish the results you get). d) inspire other like minded people to achieve their health goals ... .... .... ....... z) to get rich.

If you are generally in it to help others - (those that need help) - then there is a chance you will make some coin.  If you are just sold on the business you are a fool.

What will be next I wonder .... people with only 1 show and 8 months of training selling pre-competition nutrition programs like they just won the Olympia ffft!!! is this real life :)

if the price was $50 or something it wouldnt be such an issue, but $700 or whatever it is is just taking advantage of stupid (and maybe desperate) people

Agreed. Except that it's $948 for the most popular pack. That appears to contain a massive array of supplements - but how many are really necessary, and how many are just lining the wallets of those people higher up the chain?

I don't know what is worse, selling a completely overpriced BS product that is based on the same old industry pseudoscience/misinformation and is designed to fail so people keep coming back or trying the next best industry product (which is pretty fucking damaging for a lot of people's mental health, btw, so thanks for spreading that sunshine around)... or the fact that the people selling these products exploit their friends and family and make money off them... bet they would sell their own grandmothers if they could...

But if we look at the bright side... at least it's a good way to weed out idiots from your life!?
