I just spent the day with Dale at NZ strongest man and found him to be a class act. Swears a ton, but hey, most people do. He hooked me up with a ton of supps for free, the choc/caramel protein powder is the best I've had, and I've had quite a few types before. I imagine he could kick your butt if you got on his bad side, but if you gave him respect and lifted heavy you'd be fine. Based on that I'd be happy to associate with the guy.

Today the owner of Miada gym cancelled my membership & threw me out of the gym because I mentioned that raising the pricing and changing the deal on signed up members who were loyal is a "bit cheeky".

Dale (the owner) is totally over-aggressive. When I said this he basically said because I was questioning the pricing he was going to cancel my membership.

Totally over the top, and a slight on small business in NZ. How can such an unbalanced person with no regard for their customers run a business? Should they be able to? Should they need a psyciatric exam before dealing with the public? This behaviours opens up all sorts of questions!

The only person holding that gym together was Dale's wife. A great person and super-easy going. BRING HER BACK!!!!! We all miss her!

On top of this (sorry to rant), he said the gym was "just a hobby, and doesn't make any money therefore I don't care if you are a member".

Well... what do I say to that? So what you are saying is this is a club for people that I get on with (ie. people that don't question)

Enough rant. Anyone had similar experience or the opposite with Miada?

One last thing - if you are thinking of joining for a cheap price - DON"T. Dale feels it's his right to change pricing like underwear.

How? Have you done the due diligence involved? Had an accountant look at it? For a gym that has been running for some time now, as well as the supplement business, it seemed quite fair to me.

The price seems a lot fairer than some other supplement businesses being sold out there at the moment!

Fair enough too, my exeperiences with Dale have been sweet as. Had the odd run in but just moved on and got on with it. Lifes too short to get all uptight.

Tries to schedule his workouts around the times when Dale isn't there, but because of his VERY poor people skills, he can not keep staff, so has to be there most of the time because no one will work for him!

To me personally, nothing really major to complain about - but I hated the way he treated most of the other members, pretending he really didn't need them in the gym and treating them like shit. Seriously lacking people skills. Walks around and hassels everyone, saw him kick someone out who didn't have a towel, saw him kick someone out who wasn't using sleeves on the barbell, etc... Ah, and really let some guy have it for being to close to the mirrors with his weights. It's people skills. All you need to do is ask the members to change and do what he would prefer. not kick them out and treat them like 5 year olds. You would go a long way to find someone who actually likes/respects the guy.

Well I must say that I dealt with Dale a few years ago been the overweight person I was and he was sooooooo dam good and understanding. I have nothing but good things to say about this man.

I have found his products to be excellent and they helped me so much that I tell anyone that is willing to listen to me about himself and his product.

On a similar tangent, at that comp Dale was doing his thing on the mic. In between the events, I call him up and ask him to do a pose for the camera. He told me to f_ck off, while holding the mic in his hand for all to hear. It was a beautiful moment. :grin:

Also, I think he used to sponsor one of the elite weightlifters that I train with.

Ive worked for Dale for a long time and he's a mint boss. Yeah hes kicked a few people out but they were wankers. They were not following the basic rules of courtesy and hygiene or were just smelly bad mannered people. The boss has 4 companies to run and the guy works 18 hours a day, so yeah go figure he gets a bit pissed when he turns up and someone is repeatedly being a wanker in the gym. And as for changing prices, the gym was $10pw in 2006 to join on AP and is $11pw now to join on AP. He's never changed a deal on anyone ever. If they failed to make payments or were on a no-fixed contract then both the gym and the member cabn cancel or the gym can offer a new price if it wants...works both way! That comment from BJ was so wrong. Have any of you actually run a business that you started from scratch? Have any of you tried running 4 at the same time?
