Deadlift grip

How do you all grip the bar on deadlifts.  Was just watching deadlift vids and noticed most people seem to grip with the over/under  but with the left hand under and the right hand over if being the person deadlifting. I am reverse of this with my left being over and right being underhanded.  My right is my strong arm though . Hasn't effected my grip strength yet but wondering if you are supposed to use an underhand on your weaker hand.  How do you guys do it?

I'm right handed. My right is underhand my left us overhand.

No right or wrong way I had never deadlifted like that until my first strongman comp back in 2010 at miada otahuhu. I remember having s think aboit it Warmed up trying either and the way I chose just felt like the natural way, done it ever since.

There is no difference in grip strength between underhand and overhand. I tested this on both hands multiple times yesterday at the physio with a grip test tool. Funny this topic came up cause I tested it cause I was thinking the sand thing after failing my 300 DL a week or so ago. Did multiple times... Right side was 75-77, left side 67-69 didn't matter if Palm was facing up or down on either side. Reason for physio was for elbow as we were testing grip in regard to that but I had a play after

Some people grip deaslift in fingers too others in palms. So in ur fingers this eliminates any space for slippage which is why u dnt really get ripped up hands. Palms, because of shape of hand there is space and the bar moves while u lift this causes rips to your skin (calluses, this why they actually caused from rubbing and movement of the bar) . Something else to look at if grip shitty.

I find in training grip a mental thing lots of heavy deadlift with no straps hurts your hands. It's not about being hard etc it just hurts and is annoying. no one likes holding onto knurling with 200+ in your hands for sets and sets.

I mix it up all the time cos it causes imbalances in your rear delts and upper back musculature. Feels weird at first or if you do it one way for a long period of time but easy enough to get used to the other side. It's funny cos I'll do left under right over for a while then it'll feel unco when doing the other way and then I'll do it for a while and it feels natural. Then I'll go back to doing left under right over and now that feels unco. I've never used straps

Not ripping callous's is probably more to do with maintaining the skin than weight. I've ripped one massive one and took ages to heal up, but the trick is to keep them cut back and smooth. I use finger nail scissors then file em, others use a razor blade. Moisturizer optional lol.

definitely worth doing leading up to a powerlifting or strongman comp when you're dead lifting a lot.

i use to always do left over right under, im left handed, then a top power lifter asked wy im lifting that way, suggesting that if bodybuilding is my goal i should have both the same way, made sense so for last month or so i have been doing deads with both hands over grip to promote balanced development weather this is bro sciance or fact ill leave for everyone to discuss

I hook grip big deads, but sometimes do left under if I mix it up.

Thing with the grip test that Realtalk mentioned, crushing grip (what the dynamometer measures) and supporting grip (deadlift, farmers walk etc) are quite different. Then there is also open hand grip strength. It is possible to be stronger in crushing grip with one hand and weaker in supporting grip. That has been the case for me before.

Yes can understand how that would be true. Good point bro.
