Welcome Tasha! Great to have a lifter / athlete of your calibre come on board. Not sure how many people here know of your achievements in PL, oly and hammer throw (not to mention other events), but I'd they did they would probably ask, listen and learn!

PS been 20 years since my jaw dropped watching you squat freaking heavy weights in Taonui St gym....and you're stronger than ever!

Only heard about this yesterday so made an attempt after training today. I told the person doing the videoing to make sure he got all the weights in to show that it is 80kg...bit of a fail...but got 9 reps. If I'm not too tired tomorrow I might have another crack.

Can you please tell us about yourself Tasha, I would be inteterested to hear about your achievments and what you have done. I like listening to people who have achieved great things.

Haha damn it Ali, what time does this end tomorrow?

Midnight, so there's time for another shot. If we end up with a tie (ie, multiple people get the same number of reps), we'll extend the competition by 24 hours until we have a winner.

There's a bit to tell.....in summary:

Hammer throw: NZ record holder for many years, 10th '98 Comm Games, 6th '02 Comm Games, 17th 2000 Olympics and 15th 2001 World Champs. Best throw of 65.92m. (Also kept the sprinters honest with an electronic 100m time of 11.96)

Weightlifting: Two Oceanias and one Commonwealth Champs. Only lost my 75kg NZ clean and jerk record 2 years ago and my 69kg NZ clean and jerk record last year. Best competition lifts: snatch 75kg, Clean and Jerk 107kg.

Powerlifting: Raw - squat 170kg, bench 97.5kg, deadlift 200kg (my current NZ record is 195). Equipped - squat 200kg, bench 112.5kg (only done one equipped comp). All lifts are NZ open and Masters records.

NZ rugby 1994-5 (I played rugby for about 15 years on and off)

NZ bobsleigh 2004-5

I am currently training for the raw world champs in June and will turn 42 this year.

One female entry so far compared to something like 15+ male entries. Ridiculous how small the female mind is when it comes to facts, logic and reasoning

Fact: males have a massive anatomical advantage over females in bench

Fact: males have a hormonal advantage over females in strength training

Logic: there are more males doing strength training, though good to see the female numbers improving.

Reasoning: females tend not to need to prove themselves as much as males, (I did the bench comp because I was asked to, to up the female numbers)

Reasoning: maybe the macho male attitude is still putting off females becoming involved in strength sports?

Hard to pick a favourite. All the major games and champs were an awesome experience. I loved playing rugby but I think the strength sports are my favourites. I really enjoyed weightlifting but my body didn't and am loving the powerlifting. I enjoy being strong and pushing myself to the limit. It's great that even at my age I can still get personal bests, though only just now lifting more than what I did as a hammer thrower! I love the challenge of lifting and competing and get a buzz out of getting new personal bests. I really enjoy training at the Powerhouse Gym, the people at the gym and in the sport are pretty awesome; so much support and help when required.
