Look at this product. It's still in development, but it claims to be able to recognise what you drink, and track all your liquid calories throughout the day.

TBH, I'm not sure what to think of this.

1) Does this actually work? I think it's legit, but part of me can't help but wonder if it's an elaborate scam - it just seems so far-fetched.

2) Assuming it's not a scam, then how the hell does it work? Analysing a breakdown of all the macros is pretty complex food technology stuff, and I'd be surprised if it does that. So I presume it recognises the drink another way - but how?

3) Even if it does accurately calculate everything you drink, that's only limited value if it doesn't also track everything you eat. So hopefully the app would take that into account in some way. And I'm still not sure I'd ever actually use it.

But what do you guys think? If it does everything you'd hope for, it's a pretty cool bit of technology.

I was impressed

I reckon it will have a database of drinks u select which one you're drinking through attached app then it just works by either weighing how much u fill it up by an inbuilt scales or its got some volume indicator in the cup.

I reckon it would be most useful to figure out how much I drink when I'm on the piss Lol. Seriously I have no idea how many drinks I consume so would be really useful in that sense

re the database bit, apparently it actually detects what the liquid is, but im sceptical :

Does my Vessyl have the capability to detect toxic metals or contaminants?

Your Vessyl has sophisticated sensors that can analyze the content at the molecular level. However, the focus of Mark One is to help people improve their nutrition, so at the moment, the sensors are not intended to detect trace contaminants. We do know that detecting contaminants is a serious concern for many, so we do have a long list of projects to tackle soon.

You could potentially use light and conductivity to analysis the contents on the liquid... things like refractive index and pH are commonly used to analysis concentrations.

For example the LED light is used in hospitals to measure oxygen saturation in the blood.

True buzzy. Im just sceptical of them being able to accurately analyse p/c/f. Considering small food chains dont even have to display nutritional info cos the cost of testing is high. They could just blend a serving of their food with water pop it in this cup = macros ? Testing labs out of business ? Doubt it

Nah I don't think it could analysis the marcos accurately...

That does take a few lab tests to do, I think this product just piggy backs for apps like myfitnesspal and just tracks marcos using information stored by other users.
