From memory, Ryan does them with 3 balls - one under each hand, and one under his feet. He secretly wants to be a circus seal.

whats the point of that?

Its crossfit... no one can explain it

Higher in the air means more gravity, so a tougher workout right, crossfit logic

Less gravity. They just like cheating at any excercises they can

wow its not crazy or cross fit screw cross fit lol I do them because you work out all the same muscles you use in a normal push up as well as more core so I don't have to do abs every day and its just a warm up to get the blood pumping the only reason Andrew didn't like them was because he didn't have the core strength/balance to do as many. but essentially you start off baby steps with each hand on a medicine ball and both feet one ball. Once you've mastered that then you take one leg off the ball and put it out to the side so your core has to work harder to balance. do the same amount this time with the other leg out to the opposite side then finally if you super boss put both hands on a single ball and do the same as above!!

You sure you arent just trying to do altitude training, and calling it something else.

lol i hate crossfit as much as the next guy, but each to there own. I guarantee that alot of people think deadlifting is stupid and pointless.

funny story, yesterday i was at the gym and my sister said 'those people dancing in that room look like they are having fun' talking about the crossfit box at my gym.

Id say deadlifting would be one of if not the most useful of all excercises.

Anyway who's keen on doing some with weight? Dont opt out just because you dont think you'll do any good . Hell im not going to win any but it might push me to get a new 5 rm or a new rep max and thats what its about.

I think Spacebound was just saying that although traditional lifters may bag crossfit a bit, plenty of people love it. Personally, I like to try things from other gym disciplines... mix my bodybuilding up with crossfit, plyometrics, calisthenics, martial arts, whatever. Everything has its place, and it just keeps things interesting.

Aaaaanyway. Back to the issue of our challenges.

The Pushup Challenge is up here: http://www.gymnation.co.nz/topic/18757-the-pushup-challenge/

You've got a week, so get pushing!

And what do we all think about this bench comp? Is it a 5RM challenge? Body-weight adjusted?

Just a few I did in Dec.

100kg bench to failure.

182.5 kg squat to failure 3 times.

3 lift total in under a min.

Go on give it a shot!

i'm in, i bet i can reach failure way faster than you on those lifts easy win

Mate I struggle with reps over 6 so failure for me came quick and fast. The 3 lift one was fun! Just need a gym that will allow you to have a squat bench and dead set up all at once with no one in the way.

does it have to come back up at the end of the pause?

i can potentially squat and pause 2x bw now (190kg ish) but it won't realy be a pause itl be a 5second grind trying to get outta the hole before i drop it on the safetys

Gotta get it up !
