That Sugar Film

Pseudonym

Recommended Posts

Id love to be able to give up sugar but im to weak minded when it comes to sweet food. I did 2 weeks no sugar a couple of months ago when someone said I was looking a bit chubby and I felt awesome. Slept better, heaps of energy and body functioned perfect but the scorched almonds took control of me.

Some people say the same for keto / paleo / worm.. all sorts of diets. Wouldn't think sugar would be that much of a major problem in moderation, which america cant quite seem to get the hang of yet loool. In geography I read that avg. cals consumed daily by americans is around 3.5K, coming from fk knows where.

Sugar or more specifically fructose is once of the biggest problems facing todays society, it is being linked to degenerative brain disease, diabetes, and general obesity amongst many other health problems.

As much as gluten has now been recognised as a major problem, fructose will in the future be recognised as being detrimental to an even greater section of the population.

Christine there is nothing wrong with gluten unless you have celiacs lol.

Which l am so are many others!

And it is a medically diagnosable condition.  Which most people do not have.  Great margins in selling gluten-free products though.

Those suffering non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) should be aware that it is most likely a nocebo effect and it's just their weak minds messing with them; ref http://www.forbes.com/sites/rosspomeroy/2014/05/15/non-celiac-gluten-sensitivity-may-not-exist/

tl:dr the guy who told us that NCGS exists has seen where he went wrong

Tell that to people who suffer from NCGS and you will get different evidence.

Aww do they get a sore tummy from eating too much pizza? Or perhaps their waistline won't shrink so they blame it on protein rather than their eating habbits?

I cant get the Forbes link to go anywhere

Clink 'continue to story' at the top right.  Or google 'gluten psychosomatic'.

I work with someone who tells personal tales of the evidence of the harm gluten does him.  This is the nocebo effect.

"In medicine, a nocebo is an inert substance that creates harmful effects in a patient."

Gluten does bad things to some people because they think it does bad things to them.  Such people absolutely do experience negative effects.  It isn't the fault of the gluten however.

How come we all heard about the negative effects of gluten following this scientists original research but no one seems aware that he came to incorrect conclusions?

Looks interesting, but I din't get the premise ... does he start eating a tone of sugar every day, or does he go sugar free??

I think he just switched his carb sources to "healthy" high-sugar options... like muesli bars, sweetened yoghurt, pop tarts, etc. It'd be interesting to know whether his macros stayed the same.

Bleh, of course sugar isn't to blame for the worlds health problems. This will just be another sensationalised pop culture film. It's ridiculousness like this and false information that causes people to have psychological issues towards food.

Where are the realistic films that tell people that food is food, that tell people they should be aware of their energy expenditure vs calorie intake and promote a balanced diet that includes all foods they so wish to eat?

Instead we just get fearmongering and demonising of sugar, macdonalds even protein, probably causing more people to restrict things that the media portrays as evil (e.g. sugar, gluten) and then binge before feeling more guilty and confused about the whole thing.
