Pseudonym

Recommended Posts

Actually mate its not today, its next Saturday the 25th

Its open to GPC NZ members only but in this inagural year there is no mandatory qualification so that means if anyone wants to enter they still can even if they haven't competed with us before.  You just have to register before next friday morning and sign up and pay your membership fee.

Classes are

Teen (up to 19), Junior (up to 23), Open (up to 32), Submaster (up to 39) and Master (40 and over)

Male and female.  Raw and equipped.  Also broken down into individual weight classes for records purposes

Will be some good lifting with at least 2 male lifters aiming to lift over 850 raw and a female who should hit a solid 400+ for the first time

Kapa Haka welcome, food and drinks available, DJ, entertaining MC, Professional photographer, great prizes and trophies, Monolift, awesome lifting.  It will be a great day so even if you aren't intending on lifting come down and watch!

At this stage we will only be running 2 large flights.

I would anticipate the 2nd squat flight with the 110s, 125s, 140s and SHW will be kicking off just after 11.

How long will flight take roughly bro? Like if I lift first in flight how long it usually take before my 2nd lift? Like a minute a person...

Yeah you work on roughly a minute per person per lift,

You get a minute from the time the bar is loaded but most people address the bar within 10 seconds, unrack might take another 5 seconds (mono is slightly quicker cos no walkout) and the lift only takes 4-5 seconds then 30 seconds or so to rerack the bar for the next lifter.

Pretty awesome for the forum

leeroid came 3rd including a 270 squat

Realtalk came 2nd including massive 315 deadlift

I won with an 845 raw total at 115.5 including a 350kg raw squat

full results to come

Faark. Respect to all 3 of you!

And posting at 3am :-) You're very well written for a dude who just got home from celebrating at the pub?

Hamish,

i got couple suggestions for next nationals/comp just that I thought would be good..

1. Fade music out after bar is loaded call so no music playing for the lift way better just hearing the crowd... Or if gonna play the music then Needa select better stuff some if that shit the guy was playing is what I would have a chilled out beer to on a Sunday afternoon.

2. The tv screen needs to be somewhere like on the trophy table or facing the other way so that the spectators can see it, it's hard for them to follow the comp without seeing the screen and the lifts/attempts/scores/divisions. Greg was calling the weight on the bar but my mates were hearing it but 250 and 215 sound similar and if they don't hear properly cause of the music it's not good. Also PPP are coming and going if screen in visible place it's perfect for the spectators also for competitors too

those are couple if suggestions for u. I'm not criticising the way you did it but I know you would want feedback and ideas from different ppl on how you could always improve.

Yeah I whole heartedly agree with both points

We have had amazing DJs in the past who were attentive and kept the music low or off during the actual lifts and then pumped it up in between.  The DJs we had this time were not paying attention as much.  And the music played was not ideal unfortunately.  The best music actually started when we unplugged the DJ and just had the ipod playing ACDC lol.  We are working out a deal for next year so we have this side of things sorted.

We usually have the screen facing out to the crowd or an additional screen but the way the tables was facing meant the spotter loaders wouldnt have been able to see the screen if we pointed in to the crowd and they need to see what they are loading etc.

We have an LED screen being custom built for us next year which will display the attempt number, weight on the bar, name and whether or not it is a record attempt.  Plus it will have the light system built into it.  Couldnt afford it this year as we bought the new plate set and equipment but next year we will have heaps of flash stuff

What about projecting it onto a big screen? Then you could have a TV for the spotters, and a screen for the audience. I always find that even a big TV isn't big enough for my short-sighted eyes to make out small spreadsheet numbers from the back of the crowd. (But maybe that's just my problem, not anyone else's...)

This would be awesome, have seen some of the USA powerlifting meets where they have this and makes the comp so much easier to follow.
