I'm so happy I have found a place where I can come with questions to help me hit my physical goals.

I'm chubby and have an embarrasing gut! I've been told that eating plays the biggest part but how much of an influence does lifting and cardio have on losing weight? What is the best type of cardio to do and lifting plan to go with?

Answers would be appreciated :)

Hi k9 you have found a good place to get help and encouragement, the quick answer is diet plays about 70% of the battle in losing weight.

The next issue is that weight lifting is as important as cardio, so do not consider cardio alone as the only mechanism to lose fat.

There is no "best" cardio it all depends on what you like, but generally a varied mix of cardio is good as it means you do not get overuse injuries

What is the best weight lifting plan? This is a never ending question and require alot more information about you and your physique, and usually is best defined by a gym trainer.

Keep asking questions it is the best whay to gain the knowledge you want, good work.

Awesome reply! With cardio I'm not too fused about what I do. I would like to know if anaerobic is better than aerobic so I can train smart and effective. With weights I see what you mean. There are so many programs out there! What I do want to achieve however, is a muscular slim build. Not a muscular thick bulky look. This is an example of my eating now.

Breakfast -2 slices of grain bread toasted, 5 scrambled eggs, or porridge with 4 slices of white bread with butter

Snack -brown rice with tuna

Lunch -2 chicken sandwich's with vegetables

Snack -baked beans and 2 pieces of grain bread toasted

Dinner -steak, mushrooms or other vegetables, potato, white rice, maggies 2 minute gravy

Please critique this eating plan guys :) and also thoughts on anaerobic verses aerobic exercises. Which will help you drop weight the quickest

Thanks again :D

Download my fitness pal app and purchase food scales. Work out daily calories and make sure you don't leave anything out.

Post result on here and go from there

Im my opion, that is the best advise right there for you at the moment. I very rearly post on here because there are just so many people with great advise that it make mine silly...but this is one subject I can relate too.

Example for you....and im not saying this is the answer for you, just an example....when I went from 160kg down to 74.9kg, almost every day I ate the same...breakfast, 175g plain unflavoured yuk yogurt with an orange, snack, 2 rice thins, lunch, 140g mince with 110g green salad, snack, 2 rice thins, tea, 140g beef with 110g green salad and at least 4L water a day....ohh and the 2 black coffees. with that comes NO energy, in saying that, everyday me and my handsome dog walked around the 3.6km block.

Im not sure I would recomend that same diet...I was very lucky in the fact that I had a wife doing the same thing and the best friends anyone could ask for.

Hope this gives you some idea of why I think you are having too many carbs. You DO need carbs if you are going to go to gym etc...but at this stage I would decrease them somewhat.....IN MY OPINION.   My Fitness Pal and food scales should be you best friend for awhile.

Hope this helps a bit.

Good post, Papa Bear. You definitely should post more often. :)

Feed all that info into MyFitnessPal, k9, and let us know your total macros for the day (protein, carbs, fat). Like Papa Bear, I'm picking it's going to be way too high in the carbs, and probably too low in the protein.

Now... K9... I'm trying to guess - are you a police dog handler, or a Doctor Who fan? I'm betting on the latter. :D

Thanks again Biggrin

Too much bread for starters..

Remove a few egg yolks..

swap baked beans for bean salad..

Switch potatos for sweet potato..

Steak for fish..

Brown rice bloats your stomach, I know some bodybuilders now refrain from using it..

Add green tea, for metabolism boost..

All I can say is big thank you to everyone for the responses!!!

Ok my body fat is 30%, I'm 5'7, male and 27 years of age. Also I found out my calorie goal for losing weight on MyFitnessPal. I am going to make massive changes to my diet plan, the diet plan that I had prepared that I thought was "healthy" is 1000 calories over my calorie goal for the day. I'll come up with a new diet plan and post it up.

Also would having a peronal trainer write me up a diet/weights/cardio program make a BIG DIFFERENCE in losing the weight and getting in good shape faster or will having a diet plan revised by you guys that sticks within my calorie goal set by MyFitnessPal, doing a weight training program from this site as well as cardio few times durning the week (Game of touch, Power Walk, Etc) be fine for losing weight and getting into shape fast? Trainer's are always great but they are expensive for a student....

Thanks so much again guys. Totally love these forums!!! Feel free to share your knowledge..... It's a BIG help :)

Peace!

I would also highly recamind buying a George Forman girl

FOREMAN1.jpg

What's the going rate for one of these? I'm pleased to hear they're easy to clean. Biggrin

There about 50 dollars plus I will give a great tip for cleaning the George Forman grill which is. When one is done cooking any type of meat on it unplug the grill. Take two paper towels fold them in half and wet them with water under the tab place the wet paper towels on the grill and close lid and let your grill steam clean for half an hour. Come back in half and hour it makes things easy to clean after words.

Hey k9 it is so good to see that you are amped to do something about your weight and improve your health. I am on a system called isagenix which is an all natural no artificail crap system and alot of my friends have joined up too and we are all getting incredible results. I am going to continue with the system and up my training to gain the lean body I have always wanted. I have included my 30 day results with no exercise and also my friend cams results in 30 days but he trained 5-6 days a week which he was already doing he just wasnt getting results before.
