Nothing wrong with medals but in a display cabinet the trophies dominate

I think you've just nailed the reason for our different opinions... While I certainly appreciate the beauty of a nice trophy, a big part of my reasoning was that medals are easier to pack away in a drawer. I think maybe we have some fundamental differences in our show-casing philosophies.

Give me prizes (anything of monetary resale value) over medals or trophies any day. At golf tourneys they give Prezzy cards which is basically cash. Pretty sure you'd get more entries that way than giving out a worthless piece of plastic you paid too much for.

That's right Tom

No qualifier comp necessary, you just have to be a GPC NZ member and lift in soft suit etc to lift at our nationals. 

We felt in our inaugural year with only 2 regional qualifiers it wasn't fair to exclude so many potential lifters including lifters that had not been able to lift at our previous comps due to several reasons but helped out spot/loading, reffing and setting up.

We will have a bigger 2015 event calendar so qualification will be mandatory next year
