yeaarp should be agood little comp, hasnt been any real build up so no idea how many and quality of lifters lifting, big tom lee will be one of the men to beat for the over all with his boney 82kg frame hitting solid numbers (although i did rep his max squat for a easy 4 tonight)

there will big a great battle with the old boys in the fattys class with opti, vp, eddie and mark m(if he is lifting), all around the same number with some solid banter flying around social media, making for a great day with some much improved quality of lifters from last year, goooooooood!!

You dog! Lol solid stuff bro.

I think Former Mr NZ and Strongman champ Darren Farrow is also competing. When I talked to him at expo, he said he would go for 300/220/300 or something like that. Big numbers!

I've edited all the footage I took, and I'm currently trying to coax my poor old arthritic computer to spit it out in a usable format. At this rate of output, I figure I should have something up by Christmas.

Well done to all you guys who competed - very impressive. Especially Tom, who missed out on top spot by 1 measly Wilks point! You'll be there next time though, bro.

And it was cool finally meeting so many Gymnationers I "knew" but had never met. We'll have to do this again. :D

Also, thanks to Optimass for taking his shirt off for the camera on his last lift, and single-handedly ensuring this video gets more views. "It was getting too hot," he said. Yeah, right.

:D

I dunno - when's the next comp in Auckland? I did the Commonwealth and Oceania Champs last year out in Manukau. I try to share the love equally between CAPO, IPF, GPC, NABBA, NABBA-WFF, and NZIFBB. :)

I don't care if anyone calls me a hater, because I'm not saying this to be a jerk.

I have never seen so many back dominated deadlifts before, many in an unhealthy manner. 90% of the first lot of deadlifts on that video are not using good form, risking injury and ultimately leaving quite a few kilo's below their potential. And you see the same form errors then creeping into the squat. The lower back on the deadlift needs to be straight, neutral or arched, and any rounding ought to only begin in the upper back.

Ah, so not just me then.  I was wondering how a few of them felt the next day.  Don't get me wrong, have injured myself doing exactly the same, even though I know better.

Cheers for making the vid Pseudonym, legend!

As for form, yes there is much left to be desired buy some of the techniques, but you gotta remember these arnt light sets of 8 in your ordinary gym setting, these lifts are balls to the wall pr attempts at the end of a long day, if there is gunna ever be a form break down this when.

Mine was nasty Wook lol ... I have done a deadlift proper for so long as they are not really condusive to bodybuilding.  I trainined only rack pulls for 3 weeks and just guts it up - evident when I rolled over on my toes on my first lift at 285kg and then again on the 305kg (pitch forward over the bar at the end).   Will be a different lift in November.  I have 6 weeks to refine it after the IFBB Nationals and will get it sorted. :)

I follow, Red, but your 262 was fine. I think you'd benefit from a slightly lower hip position, but your form was good. I'm more talking about the first few deads on the video. Zero leg drive on a few of them and the lats are clearly not activated in quite a few lifts, means the whole back rounds.

GO get em Opti ;) Good tip is to think of yourself driving through your traps towards the ceiling. I've often struggled with falling forward due to a long torso.
