Planning a trip to the states for 4-5 weeks in July next year were are places worth visiting? Anyone had any experience over there?

Was planning to travel the coast spending a bit of time in Califonia and florida. Finishing up the trip in Las Vegas for a few nights. Pretty keen to go to some armecian football and baseball games also.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Venice Beach / Muscle Beach Gym is an obvious one, but would be cool to see.

Also Alcatraz Island off San Fran would be pretty cool to go to also.

You gotta go to one of those shooting ranges and try out all the awesome guns too!

Jealous of your trip! USA is somewhere that I cannot wait to visit.

Cheers Rxx forgot to mention shooting ranges, also wouldn't mind boosting around in those dune buggies.

San fran is definitely on the cards.

Wrong time of year for any American Football - it's a winter sport.

What are you interested in? Are you a city/night life person or an outdoors wildlife guy?

The US is fucking enormous. You can do everything there.

Plan to do all the partying in Vegas and Flordia. I thought that might be the case.. I don't follow the American Football but would be cool to go to a match or baseball/basket ball or ice hockey.

Sorry Gymrat not to keen to go to Gold's, be pretty cool to checkout BOSS Barbell though.

Depending on how you're getting around (car, bus, plane?) you should go check out:

  • New Orleans: Awesome bar, music and food culture!
  • The Grand Canyon: It's world famous for a reason
  • Miami and South Florida in general have a strong Cuban influence: Awesome for party and beach!
  • Avoid Dallas: Boring as shit unless you have family there
  • If you're flying and have the $$, New York City is phenomenal. If you're not loaded, it will suck
  • San Diego is great. Instead of spending time in dirty shitty LA, go to San Diego: Much cleaner (streets and atmosphere). Has a strong Mexican influence being so close to the boarder
  • Outdoors stuff: The Everglades in Florida are a huge tropical wetlands national park
  • I'm sure there is a heap more to do.

I met my wife in California

If you like Rollercoasters, Six Flags Magic Mountain is off the charts. Seriously, everyone goes to Disneyland, but Six Flags is where its at. About 10 heavy duty rollercoasters.

Hollywood is a massive let down, but worth going to Walk of Fame and the Sign.

I quite enjoyed Universal Studios.

Food: In and Out Burger is fantastic. Coldstone Icecream. Stonefire. If you can hit up Brazilian BBQ in a place like Burbank then do that.

Walking around Venice Beach with a huge bag of skittles in your pocket and 2.5litre big gulp gatorade is just quintessentially America

Did a quick search on New York looks awesome and quite a strong sporting culture. I wouldn't say I am loaded though... so maybe a no go.

Plan is to travel mostly by car, although domestic flights are cheap and also an option.

Thinking about flying into San Franciso and driving down the coast stopping at Sanit Monica/LA  then San Diego and finishing the trip in Miami, Florida.

Hopefully along the way can find places to shoot guns and checkout six flags and do some outdoors stuff.

New Orleans (or Naw'lins as the locals say) was awesome.  Especially Bourbon St at night.  Placid during the day, although if you get to the French Quarter too early in the morning they will still be hosing it down from the night before escapades!  Lots to do & see.  I went to a truely awesome car show there, was around February though.

Vegas is also a must do - party central night & day.  No need to gamble, plenty else to do.  Next time I go I'm staying at Excalibur!
